We already have Richard's personal email (the non RD.net one) as that's the one he used to contact me on.

Have you said, or do you plan to say, anything to him with regards to this - or are you convinced he'll respond mostly just with apathy to the whole thing. (Richard is such a pain in the arse sometimes - claiming to be quixotic one minute, getting all riled up about small things with other posters on RD.net - and then getting shirty if you get riled up about something that he doesn't want on his radar. )

My own attitude on this is that I frankly couldn't be arsed unless RD (and maybe Josh) can be inveigled (pressured in other words) into answering questions in public. Call it hard-won experience.

Personally, I'm convinced that Dawkins knows everything about the forum closing and the plans for the new discussion system, but nothing about the way he two tossers went about things. I'm sure there's a reason Josh and Andrew feel the need to hide their tracks, cut communication links, and even tell staff to behave and not to contact the Prof.

So unprofessional. Not people person of the year anyway. Josh sucks more than a Turkish hooker on speed. He's going to wish I didn't have his personal email address.

I wish you luck, but my own experience is that he just ignores anything that doesn't suit him.

I've got quite a collection of ignored emails that I've sent to him ranging from "So how come it's easy to fix search and you aren't doing it?" to "Hellooooooooooooooo?"

Meh, if all else fails, you can always sign him up for regular emails about the Alpha Course (I saw an advert for it in my town the other day for the first time ever ).

You must be more persistent than me then. Apart from prompting him to use forum credentials to verify users on the Front Page (back in late 2006), he's never really taken me up on any advice.

Well, well, well here we go again.

I must say there doesn’t seem to have been much learning since the business with Off Topic posts a year or so ago. I must say I didn’t lose much sleep then as I agreed with the need to get rid of the near hard porn that was emerging. However what came through loud and clear was how appallingly the whole thing was handled at the time even to the point where RD found that he needed to come online to actually post a message in order to calm every one down.

This time it’s different. I really sympathise with all the mods there and I find it unbelievable the way you have all been treated. Deleting a few thousand OT posts was one thing but to effectively rubbish the many thousands of hours you have all put in, FOR NOTHING, is nothing short of shameful.

I must say I thought there was something wrong very early on when it became a joke to guess when RD might make it to 100 posts ON HIS OWN FORUM. It seem to be clear now that he has been uncomfortable with the whole project ever since. Ironic really that he should have gained a Professorship in a subject that is basically about communication.

I feel for you all and can readily understand you anger especially considering the work you all put in both as moderators and members, in keep a potential snake pit mainly sane. Also the speed and enthusiasm you all responded to the call for donations just a few short months ago was phenomenal. That cynical request make the whole thing even more distasteful to me.

The very least RD can do now is to make a statement with just a single subject, his sincere thanks coupled with a huge apology to you all even though, this time it’s too late.

I feel a little lost at the moment. I don't really know what to think or feel. I'm angry and sad, but I think that's a given really. I feel incredibly gutted for the mods and the all of the work and dedication they put into the forum.

I don't want to believe that Richard okayed Josh's actions, I don't want to lose all respect for the man that wrote a truly life changing book (not TGD btw). But there is a side of me that thinks back to previous encounters with Dawkins on the forum, and I can't help feel a certain uneasiness about this whole situation.

This felt strange! You said what I've been trying to say all this time. Exact, word-to-word! And I guess we are talking about the same book here as well!

What has Dawkins got to do with RDFRS' goals, though? Unless a goal of the foundation is indeed to promote the Richard Dawkins persona/brand, as well as to promote pure reason and science.

I actually thought of this myself. They said they wanted threads focussing more on reason and science. If threads start asking about Richard Dawkins the personal character, I will feel compelled to report them.

Actually, one of my daily chores was to locate the Dawkins fluff threads and ship them to OT. We tried to keep the Dawkins threads about the ideas and the mission rather than "what's Richard's favourite chocolate bar?"

Those were the days. You could leave a pie out and it wouldn't rain.
