Printers, by their very nature, are inexplicable.

My C4180 interfers with my Mustek scanner, hijacking all scanner commands and locking up the A3 scanner, the one I use the most. When HP updates their software I have to reinstall the Mustek software after so I can use it.

I have a C4380 networked scanner/printer/copier and if I want to use the scanner I have to pretty much have to reinstall the whole HP package again. It is an unadulterated pile of wank!

My dad used to work for HP; he'll be glad to hear it. :hehe:

I have an HP printer too, btw, and while it doesn't malfunction, the quality is pretty dismal.

I went to the HP facility in Indianapolis back in 1989. I spoke to a junior engineer, asking him for a keyboard that bent in the middle so my hands were in a more natural position. He pretty much blew me off. Two years later they're selling "ergonomic keyboards."

He's an electrician. If you want the printer to light up on a dimmer switch and timer, he's your man.

HP laserjets (and Deskjets are just crap so I am not even going there) are a bit of hit and miss here.

In front of me there is a HP Laserjet 4250 that has been there spewing paper for the last 4 years, it has worked flawlessly.

In the back is a HP 4050 and a 4200, that have been there for many years, and neither has missed a print yet.

All these have only needed their scheduled maintenance kits and toners as part of the regular maintenance.

At finance there is a Dell MFP 1600 laserprinter, and that thing hasn't printed right for more than a few days all year.

So they also have a HP P3015, where a drawer jams the paper every month. So now I've ordered a new drawer, and the delivery time is 3 months.

In Germany we placed a HP MFP laserprinter to replace a Dell 1600 MFP Laser similar to the Dutch one, and it fried its circuit board after 4 months so that is now in repair.

I am getting the impression that the old LaserJet printers are of a much better build quality than the new ones.

I now have a Xerox 6130N Color Laserprinter, installed last week. I'll see how that goes.

We dumped all our ergonomic keyboards. No one here liked them, so we stopped ordering them.
