Probably not but my point is that when talking Miramax into financing the film he would've needed a CV because you can't just walk up to a producer with nothing. It sounds to me, unless I'm reading it wrong, that New Line Cinema got wind of all this (probably through some Hollywood grapevine) so even if they didn't see his previous work they certainly would've picked up on the buzz surrounding the project but Jackson at some stage would have to have convinced people that he was capable of this.Elessarina wrote:I read about it in the FT way back like in 2002.. I am sure i have the article still somewhere. But I am certain that when NL offered him the deal they had not seen his previous films and then viewed them subsequently... I may be wrong though..Animavore wrote:Yes I can see that on Wiki now. I can also see that Peter Jackson had his own special effects company which he set up for Heavenly Creatures and used for LOTR so it would be reasonable to assume that this would have played a part in him getting the original deal with the earlier company before New Line heard about this and decided to offer him the full trilogy.

Frighteners was funded by Universal on the back of a Robert Zemeckis recommendation I believe.. Universal and Miramax were the studios/ companies who were funding LOTR originally
Re: The Movie Anticipation Thread.
Well there you go. He came in on a recommendation and then developed a respect off them and proved he was capable of a larger project. So there is a direct causal line between his early horror films to surreal psychological fantasy to epic fantasy.Elessarina wrote:Animavore wrote:

Jackson's remcommendation came on the back of Heavenly Creature not his earlier works..Animavore wrote: Well there you go. Ergo by your own argument then there must be a direct line between the director of COTT and his previous works..
Re: The Movie Anticipation Thread.
Of course. I never said there wasn't. The COTT director has proven himself very competent with handling a CGI fight sequence. In fact even if the film itself isn't great I would expect any fight sequences (at least one on one monster battle sequences like Hulk and what's-his-face) to be quite good. But they still let Ronald Emerich and Michael Bay make movies on the weight of their CGI prowess despite not having great story-telling so that's not saying much. I was glad to see Peter Jackson's name for LOTR because it was a name I could trust. Had I seen Joel Shumacher's name I would instantly have been distrustful.Elessarina wrote:Jackson's remcommendation came on the back of Heavenly Creature not his earlier works..Animavore wrote: Well there you go. But until you see it you can't judge and he must have got the gig for a reason..Animavore wrote:

Anyway it's out 26th march so maybe I'll go see it in Stocky

I won't judge it 'til I've seen it either. I'm just going to remain sceptical. I hoping to be pleasantly surprised because i always loved the original as a child.Elessarina wrote:But until you see it you can't judge and he must have got the gig for a reason..Animavore wrote:

I just remembered that I joined up for a monthly cinema card. Only €19.99 a month for unlimited cinema (fucking great when you consider its €8 for a ticket to see one film) so despite what I said earlier seeing this or any other film is not going to damage my wallet so I probably will be seeing this as well as almost every other film that comes out this year.
Getting my monthly membership card on Monday

it's a different story from the 80s version
Re: The Movie Anticipation Thread.
Same principle I'm sure. I haven't seen it since I was a kid so I don't remember the story. Just certain images and disconnected scenes remain in my head.Elessarina wrote:Animavore wrote: I won't judge it 'til I've seen it either. I'm just going to remain sceptical. I hear it's going to be released in two parts? It was certainly the most complex (sic) of the HP books.JimC wrote:The next Harry Potter movie...![]()

Re: The Movie Anticipation Thread.
"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is book six. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" is book seven. As it was over 750 pages it was going to be tough to distill down. And now they get the added advantage of charging two admissions to see one movie. This could be a trend.Animavore wrote:Its all the same to me.
