Incoming. Not much for animation, but that doesn't look very Disney to me.

Incoming. I didn't even bother to look for reviews.

I have been very beautifully surprised by "Tsurugidake: Ten no Ki" As far as I know it has only been subtitled, whith the name "The Summit. A chronicle of Stones to Serenity". In 1907, at the beginning of the Meiji Era, the map of Japan is almost completed by the Japanese Surveyors, except for a point corresponding to Japan's most difficult mountain: Mt. Tsurugidake. The conquering of the mountain is hardened by the local lack of help due to the superstition that regards that mountain as the land of the dead, and the race with the European Climbing Club, who has announced that they will easily climb it thanks to the modern European techniques and instruments. The surveyors need not only to climb it, but to build survey point towers at different levels.
Like Dersu Uzala the core of the movie is the relationship and respect with the local guide.
Visually very powerful, great acting. A must have.

I'm off for two weeks - on doctor's orders, and he told me to do relaxing stuff. So today I went to see 'Up in the Air'.
What a delight! Possibly one of my all time favourite films, if on the sad side. Superb acting, a clever plot and ideas and and ending I challenge you not to sniff back tears for.
All that plus George Clooney! Go see it - fabtastic!
Reviews are universally positive too, if you need reassurance that Rum isn't just a bum boy for George!

I went to see it last weekend, definitely worth a watch. That director can do no wrong of late.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

Huh? What's going on
Um...to stay on topic...just saw True Romance. Tarantino scipt. Pretty cool film. Would like to have seem T direct it himself, but still not half bad. First film, years ago, that I saw Christopher Walken in by the way. A fine turn. Love Walken, but have not seen him in a better role since.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Recently watched Public Enemies, Taken, The Hitman and Mongul on DVD. I think I enjoyed Mongul most. Some fabulous scenery.
(Another

for Brazi, though I only have it on video so haven't watched it in ages.)

I just finished watching
The Devils by Ken Russel.
I forgot how deliciously disturbing, ostensibly outrageous, hilariously hysterical and sufficiently succinct this film was. Recommended for anyone interested in the dark side of mass hysteria, religious fervour, suggestion and delusion.
Don't take my word for it. This glowing one star review (out of a possible ten) says it all better than I could.
The acting was probably good and the cinematography, etcetera were great. But the story was so dark and so upsetting to me that when I saw it (when it first came out) I literally left the theater running down the street crying hysterically.
Because if this movie for many years afterwards I would refuse to go to any movie that had any violence or cruelty in it, because it left me feeling so terrible. Only when I finally saw PULP FICTION in the '90s was the spell broken, to where I can venture out to movies with violence again -- for one reason, and that is because Tarantino knew how to put the much-needed humor into a film with so much violence (which I can't say for RESERVOIR DOGS -- didn't like that one either).
At the time I saw this flick Oliver Reed was on of my favorite actors, but even he could not save this film for me. It was a miserable experience watching this film and I would never recommend it to anyone.

According to Mark Kermode Warner Brothers have made a full unedited version 5 years ago and are reluctant to release it on DVD
I keep hoping FilmFour will show the unedited version again so i can record it. The copy I have isn't great.

After seing Evan Almighty yesterday and waiting for something interesting or funny happening the whole movie I felt my sunday had been totally wasted by this piece of shit film.
So I went through my hard drive and found K-PAX. It was a fantastic film! I really loved the idea of him being from K-PAX. Has anyone else seen it? What do you feel happened in the end?
Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

K-PAX was a great film. I don't really know what actually happened in the end, but it's a movie so anything is possible.

"Avaze gonjeshk-ha", international title "The Song of Sparrows".
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0997246/
Really strange film. It is about a man who supports his family by working on an Ostrich farm just outside of Tehran, Iran. Then when an Ostrich escapes, he loses his job and needs to find work any where he can find it.
There isn't much of a plot, but somehow this movie kept me entertained all the way through.
