Its because Cameron advertised it as a serious sci-fi movie (the ad said From the director of "Terminator 2" and "Aliens" totally misleading and inappropriate to Avatar.) instead of what it was, a family movie. If he had of advertised it that way I may have liked it like I did Finding Nemo.

Actually it also said from the director of "Titanic" and Cameron made no secret of wanting to make this movie the Star Wars of this generation - there is a line of toys, a computer game, promotions at McDonalds etc... as I said previously its code name was Project 880 (For ages 8-80). If you expected it to be a movie for adults that was your error
Nope. Not mine. The film had quite a serious ad. I didn't even know about the promotions and toys 'til after it came out and only heard about project 880 2 weeks ago. It was not something that was on the ad. Titanic is also misleading as its not a family movie. The only thing I remember thinking when Titanic came up along with the other films was Are you sure its wise to admit to making such a sucky movie?

What it was marketed as:

What you actually saw:
"The fact is that far more crime and child abuse has been committed by zealots in the name of God, Jesus and Mohammed than has ever been committed in the name of Satan. Many people don't like that statement but few can argue with it."

Hard to attend a University which hasn't started for this year yet.

Hmm! That's the first time I've watched the trailer, and it's in 2D. Didn't look right, having seen the real thing in 3D!

Avatar lacks the character development and engrossing story that made Star Wars what it is. Not to mention the incredibly imaginative universe and ambience that one could sink oneself into.
Is there for honest poverty
That hangs his heid and a' that
The coward slave, we pass him by
We dare be puir for a' that.

I thought it pissed on Star Wars.

Time flew while Avatar was on, it was easy to understand, visually breathtaking and thought provoking.

If Avatar was made first and Darth Vadar came along in his suit everyone would have laughed.

I was referring to the "thought provoking" aspect which I had bolded and seems to run counter to "easy to understand".

EDIT: For the recorded I'm not a Star Wars fan at all.

I thought time flew as well.. I can understand people feeling it lacked character development but where would you make the cuts to allow for it? There was no part of the film that to me seemed superfluous. 160minutes is the Imax maximum length.

The thing is we are as greedy, acquisitve and hateful as the Sky People in Avatar. They are cartoon versions of the worst, most acquisitive and greedy parts of humanity, while the big blue fuckers represent our conscience, our potential and what should be our true relationship with our environment.

It's like us today but with no middle ground.

See - it provokes thoughts!
