BAA needs to stay. Leo-rcc is too diplomatic to join me in the over-rated camp. I need a tag team member for the double-clothesline.

Avatar is Ferngully with explosions.

Re: Avatar
If the production costs of Avatar are around $500 million, you might think you can employ a few writers to come up with an original plot.

Re: Avatar
Hollywood never has an original idea, so you have to take what comes along or do without. I'm not missing some fun just because I've decided I'm too posh for that shit.Animavore wrote:Clichés are getting tiresome now. Ferngully, Pocahontas, Dances With Wolves, all done more times than Katie Price.
Re: Avatar
I've a new simile. Its like Freaks in space.

EDIT: Ah. I see what happened here. You thought I was referring to Avatar where I was actually referring to the cliché that BAA made of Ferngully with explosions and other clichés like Dances With Wolves in space etc..
Off course films are clichéd. Gladiator is Braveheart, Shawshank Redemption is every jail film that came before it but they were all still good films. Its not that Avatar is clichéd that bothers me. Its the execution and the total lack of absorption into the story that does.

Re: Avatar
Originality isn't compulsory, it just makes it different.
It's execution, and Avatar was completely and utterly fucking average. I saw it in 3d and the animated short shown before that had a dog and the ball beat it by miles.
I watched UP, and that was a fuck load better than Avatar.
The problem with Avatar is that it was pretentious, preachy and relied far too heavily on shiny things.

And UP didn't have a heavy environmental message combined with a HUGE load of schmaltz?born-again-atheist wrote:Originality isn't compulsory, it just makes it different.

Re: Avatar
I thought UP was pretty average to be honest, but it was small scale, and the 'Environmental message' was background, not written in ALL CAPS like it was undoubtedly in Avatar's script.Gawdzilla wrote:And UP didn't have a heavy environmental message combined with a HUGE load of schmaltz?born-again-atheist wrote:Originality isn't compulsory, it just makes it different.
