Cheers, Clinton - long time no see!

(you have been reported AWOL to the Brigadier, but I think he was too pissed to notice...)
Morning, Jim, old bean.

An acquaitance of mine saw Sherlock at the weekend and said it was an enjoyable romp.
Back from seeing it with Nick. Good, but you need to not think about the books... ;)
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

Actually I heard that this portrayal of Holmes is the closest. Was I mislead?

Up In the Air. A great role for George Clooney.

It does capture the obsessiveness and eccentricity, but misses the essential Englishness...

(not quite what I mean, but if you read the books, you might see what I mean...)

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

I saw a movie that really impressed me. It is called "Mary and Max" and is a clay animation movie from Australia. It is about a man in New York, and a girl in Australia who start a pen pal relationship, and the things that happen in their lives during the years while Mary is growing up and Max is struggling with his mental issues.

It was incredibly funny (though you wouldn't think it by my description), at times moving, and above all extremely entertaining. I really recommend it.
Best regards,

In The Name Of The Rose.

A Franciscan monk (saean Connery) and his assistant (Christian Slatter) investigate the deaths of some monks in a remote monastery during some ancient period.
It was actually really good. 8-)

I re-watched The Shawshank Redemption last night, I'd forgotten how good that film was.

Based on the book of the same name by Umberto Eco?
Does it have the same atheistic undertones as the book?

How could you?

I envy anyone who watches that for the first time, especially when it comes to that surprise moment ... you know the one.

Its so long since I've seen it that it almost was like watching it for the first time, plus there were nuances in it that I didn't pick up on the first time I saw it. I especially like the bit about the Bible - "Salvation lies within." :hehe:

I must watch it again myself sometime soon. There are some movies that I like to watch every couple of years, just because they're so damn good. 8-)

Which ones? I'm looking for suggestions to build my DVD collection. 8-)
