One more thing, they'll be able to search the "top" directory, or each subdirectory from that page, so finding all instances of "Churchill" or "Iowa" shouldn't be an issue.

Listen to the man. For something like this, you don't want static web pages, but dynamic pages driven by a search form and a back-end database query.Gawdzilla wrote:I have no idea about doing databases.Thinking Aloud wrote:I know you're not really after mechanics, but if the opportunity presents itself, consider putting all of this kind of stuff into a database, and having your webpages read the data from there. If there are going to be many hundreds of entries it might be worth looking into. It'll give you the ability to sort, search and group in different ways. For instance, someone just interested in Churchill's speeches could get a page of results suited to them, rather than have to search through a complete chronological list.Gawdzilla wrote:I'm thinking of using the entries from here to give context to the speeches. The page would not be primarily a chronology, but a link to the "events" page for that year would start off each page. Problem is it stops at 1943.
Just a thought for the future.

You could print everything onto "paper" and have some kind of "card index" system.....

Why pay for coal or gas when servants are so cheap these days? Get a couple of destitute Icelanders pedalling on a big wheel. Tis how I kept the lights on at Huxley Towers over the festive period.Gawdzilla wrote:Coal fired or coke? The alternative is to, as you say, learn new skills. And who the devil wants to do that?
