I couldn't watch Transformers or GI Joe either. I watched the first 10 minutes and turned off the computer.Ian wrote:I hope so. I like a good movie, not just impressive special effects. You couldn't have paid me to watch Transformers or G.I. Joe this year. And it would take clydesdales to drag me to see 2012.
On the other hand I have to say 2012 is really entertaining, particularly for it's underlying commentary about religion and all the pseudo science. You'll be laughing the entire time. I went to see it with a Freethinker's group I belong to and we had a great time, and lots of fun bashing it afterwards. It's really superb entertainment I would reconsider not seeing it.

Pesonally I find more paralelism with Dune than with Dancing With Wolves. I guess we all get different feelings from it, which probably states that it's a good movie.
In the beginning I missed more detail in the characters motivation... Some flashback, or chat at night time. But then, if we are able to see each character evolution without confusion, means that Cameron did his job well: Put characters into motion without losing the spectator.
The movie takes you in fast motion from one amazing scene into another, all along almost 3 hours, keeping you in the plot all the way. That's a good film for me.

Re: Avatar
Well due to the 160 minute maximum time for Imax films Cameron was restricted I am sure he would have liked to have made a longer film with a bit more character depth.
I have heard Avatar compared to many many films.. it seems everyone sees different things in it.

I've been reading some reviews and opinions of this this morning and I just realised that in England and America they have bumped the prices to see this in 3-D (a whopping £13.50 in London!). Where as in Ireland they are selling the 3-D glasses for 50c and have reduced the normal price of a movie ticket as a result so that the price ends up the same as always.
WTF!! I would've been pissed off if I had to pay extra to see it.

WTF!! I would've been pissed off if I had to pay extra to see it.St. Loser? Is that expensive? I don't know the cost of tickets over there. It was $8.00 over here with a further 50c for the glasses which is normal (its only €5 if you go to the early bird showing which I will the next time and as I already have the glasses I won't have to pay the extra).
$10.25 is about the price of a meal at a fast food joint. Top of the menu at McDonalds, say.
Re: Avatar
I just converted it. $10.25 = €7.16728. A little bit cheaper. Same as a McDonalds too.Gawdzilla wrote:St. Louis => St. Loser.Animavore wrote:Gawdzilla wrote:It was $10.25 for a ticket in St. Loser.Animavore wrote:I've been reading some reviews and opinions of this this morning and I just realised that in England and America they have bumped the prices to see this in 3-D (a whopping £13.50 in London!). £13.50 = € 15.1397
Londoners are getting ripped off. Although its supposed to be much dearer there so its probably cheaper everywhere else.

That's not too bad, I thought London would be more than that. I paid £9.25 on all three occasions (3D and in a good cinema). I didn't go for priority seats, or they would have been over £10.Animavore wrote:Jesus London is really expensive.Elessarina wrote:Mine was £7.50 in 3D, glasses included

I was talking to some people last night whose opinions I respect, and they said, "Dumbest movie ever." The rare mineral they're looking for is called unobtainium, for chrissake. But... the effects are beautiful!
I'm with John Simon on this one: the only thing effects should be is effective. Hell if I'll waste my money on it.
