EDIT: Sorry. I'm dunk. I just realised I haven't contradicted myself with the first post. I said a film doesn't necessarily need a good script but those films still had a good story. So did Avatar of course. Its the execution of that story which didn't live up to what they did in early Cameron.
you smell of poo

Almost at $500m
Re: Avatar
Almost went to see it tonight. Had my in-laws here to babysit and drove to the theater, but it was sold out. Oh well.
Is it really that good? It looks pretty silly, IMO. The planet seems like some outlandish fantasy worked up on computers, the aliens look like blue cats, I've heard the plot described as Dances With Wolves in outer space, and the human soldiers (or at least the commander with the scars on his face) look like the sort of charicatures of real soldiers you'd see in 1980s movies. If I saw ads for it and didn't know that it was directed by Cameron, I doubt I'd look twice.
But I might love it when I see it. It is James Cameron, after all.

The scene where the shuttle swings in behind the "Apaches" is worth the price of admission.Ian wrote:Almost went to see it tonight. Had my in-laws here to babysit and drove to the theater, but it was sold out. Oh well.

I hope so. I like a good movie, not just impressive special effects. You couldn't have paid me to watch Transformers or G.I. Joe this year. And it would take clydesdales to drag me to see 2012.

Re: Avatar
I stopped noticing the effects and started experiencing them. If you've seen "Beowulf" or "Journey to the Center of the Earth", think of them as Sunday funnies compared to this. (You HAVE to see the 3D, of course.)Ian wrote:I hope so. I like a good movie, not just impressive special effects. You couldn't have paid me to watch Transformers or G.I. Joe this year. Re: Avatar
That's it alright. But still worth seeing because the effects will blow your mind. Unless you have an aversion to effects which some people do (One of my friends will only watch true to life films. He thinks special effects films are nonsense and won't entertain them).Chinaski wrote:Apparently the plot is basically RARR HUMANS IS EVIL DESTROYS ENVIRONMENT KILLS EVERYTHING.Red Katie wrote:I saw a review that said it was all effects and no plot.
