Anthropology time. How many different cultures did you spot being "borrowed" for the Na'Vi?
Re: Avatar
From the real world or previous fiction? because it was pretty much somewhere in between Native American culture and Dinotopia from my perspective (well plus the hair thing and all that comes with it.)Gawdzilla wrote:Anthropology time. There were Native American "items" to the culture, but others as well. I spotted some Swahili in there. The "yipping" was Souix, I think.andrewclunn wrote:From the real world or previous fiction? because it was pretty much somewhere in between Native American culture and Dinotopia from my perspective (well plus the hair thing and all that comes with it.)Gawdzilla wrote:Anthropology time. I finally saw it after not making it into the pre-screening. I saw it in IMAX 3D. I was disappointed the theatre didn't fill the IMAX screen with the frame of the film (not because of the aspect ratio but because the sides of the IMAX screen were still empty) but it was still a good experience. I wasn't impressed with the story but it was told well. Of course, the visuals were impressive though and I overall enjoyed the film.

Re: Avatar
Just came back from seeing it
I thought the story was somewhat cliche-ridden. There were several points where I winced at the dialogue. I was like, "Nooo, please tell me they didn't just say that
" Also, I wasn't convinced by the relationship of the main characters. I mean, it's obvious why our hero would fall for the native woman. But why would she fall for him?
Overall, though, I enjoyed the film immensely despite its minor flaws. It was, what, three hours long? Didn't seem like it, though. Kept my interest the whole time, and I wouldn't have minded if it were even longer. It was visually stunning, and so rich in detail. And I cried like half a dozen times
Also, how old is Sigourney Weaver? She looks amazing
What a wonderful surprise, too. I really love her, and I had no idea she'd be in the film.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

How many times did the rest of you lot cry while watching this film? I think it was about six times for me. Do I win?

Haven't seen it but it's highly doubtful I will cry. Facepalm during the mushy scenes maybe but never cry.tattuchu wrote:How many times did the rest of you lot cry while watching this film? I think it was about six times for me. Do I win?

I don't remember which scene did it first for me. But once I started, the waterworks never really stopped.Gawdzilla wrote:Once, I think, for me. Funny thing is, I rarely cry in response to real life stuff. But during movies...forget it
