This song is an homage to metal, and the cheesy voices that go along announcing it. Far beyond Metal.

The world of metal subgenres is vast and mindfucking.
Quite true, though the differences between them are often very slight.
The movie "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" does a good job of trying to break down the various subgenres and how they relate to each other.
Here's a rundown of the chart created for that movie:

Opeth = Goth metal???? :think:

Some of the placements are a little arbitrary in that list. I doubt many of the bands themselves would describe themselves as the category that they are placed in. And a lot of them have passed through various phases. Examples: Judas Priest are under Power Metal but began as Prog Metal, Motorhead pre-dated the NWOBHM and kick-started it, Meshuggah may include prog elements but have next to nothing in common with any other band in that grouping - I would class them as a blend of Death Metal and Math Rock, Sabbath, Purple & Led Zep are in a category that ends in 1971!!

And the links between genres are impenetrable to say the least. If I was the teacher of the kid that handed that work in, I would give him detention until he got it right! :hehe:

Oh. And where would you stick Ulver? :?

Early Ulver is black metal, later Ulver isn't even metal anymore.

Hmmm... A little simplistic.

Their first album had elements of black metal, but with heavy folk influences. The second album was acoustic metal. The third was pure black metal. After that, they slowly evolved into electronica but the metal influence carried through for several albums.

An interesting band.
