Yes but Ellison got it off me.

Or at least he will in 2 years when I go back in time and give him the script.

Or you could send a robot back to just kill him, and take credit for all his works.

I can see Ani inspiring Ellison, but not being Ellison.

Is Batman Begins any good? Its on tonight, but it clashes with The Pianist on RTE 2, which I know is brilliant cos I've already seen it. If the Batman movie is a turkey I'll just watch The Pianist again.

If it's the Batman with Christian Bale it's entertaining. And, as you said you can always switch over if it's not to your liking. I've seen both, and if I had to choose it would be The Pianist.

I watched 2012 last night. It's a quintessential disaster movie. I'm curious to hear if anyone else reads the ultimate irony and dig at religion in the movie that I did. While I wouldn't go so far as saying it's an atheist movie, it certainly makes fun of religion in some very subtle ways and is worth watching just for that.
Atheists have always argued that this world is all that we have, and that our duty is to one another to make the very most and best of it. ~Christopher Hitchens~

I think the Napoleon complex should be renamed the Ellison complex.

Thanks. I'll get my box of chocolates out then and try the Batman movie with Christian Bale.

I had to because I needed to be born on the date I was instead of the date I would've been had I let nature take his course (JFK would only have died in 1989). Everyone knows the period between the previous life and the current one is roughly 15 years (although its a blink of an eye for you on the other side which runs on a faster time line). I needed to be older when the events of 2012 happen so I can be in a position to stop them. Obviously as an eight-year old boy there would have been little I could do.

I just watched Orphan. It was surprisingly good. I figured it'd just be another mindless, contrived, gratuitous crap-fest, but Roger Ebert gave it a good review so I gave it a try. In the first part of the film we get to know the family the evil girl is no doubt going to terrorize, and we learn a little their history and why the parents wish to adopt a child. It was such an effective drama in this first act, and the acting so exceptionally good, that I almost wished the movie wouldn't turn into a horror film. It didn't need to. But since we have gown to care about the characters, we actually care about their fate. There's an emotional investment here that's conspicuously absent from many horror flicks, so it was a refreshing and welcome surprise.
The film was beautifully shot, and the scenes unfolded in a fairly subtle way. Not the usual hit-you-over-the-head presentation one has come to expect from horror films. The other thing that impressed me was that the story was fairly believable. The dialogue wasn't cringe-inducing, and the reactions of the characters and their interplay didn't make me want to scream at the scream, "What are you doing, you idiot? What the fuck are you doing?" like most films of this type. It all made sense for the most part, and one bit followed logically from the last. When the evil child, for instance, manipulates those around her to turn on each other, you can what she's playing at. You don't groan in protest at the absurdity of it as you might in other films, because here it seems plausible. The surprise ending, also, isn't a surprise just for the sake of a surprise. It works. It makes sense.
What really makes this film work so well, and allows you to overlook plot holes and what-have-you, is the astonishingly good acting by all involved. The woman who plays the mother did an amazing job. You feel for her. You care about her. She was so good, in fact, that I'm going to search out other films she's done. The father is great, and the kids are great. It's difficult to find good child actors, but these kids make their characters believable and real. Jimmy Bennett, who plays the son, I think is one of the best child actors working right now. He doesn't have an awful lot to do in this film, however, but does a fine job with what he's been given. It's the little deaf girl who plays the daughter, though, who really impresses. I actually felt sorry for her for being in this film. I was worried the experience would scar her, poor thing! And the girl who plays the evil adopted child... :hehe: She's great, and easily carries the film in a difficult and challenging role.*
All in all, wonderfully done. It's no masterpiece or anything, don't get me wrong. And it's not on the level of, say, The Exorcist. It's just quite a bit better than I ever expected. For a genre film, using a done-before-and-done-again basic premise, I thought it was intelligently done, with subtlety grace and style. A pleasant surprise.

*Compare to, say, an embarrassingly out of his depth Macaulay Culkin in a similar role in The Good Son.
People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

Watching a really dumb movie, The Mistress of Spices. Dylan McDermott has to be about the worst actor ever, and the story is so ludicrous it's impossible to suspend your disbelief.

But, naturally must see it through to the end. :ddpan:

If only. :(

I haven't seen any good movies lately, but I am super stoked for AVATAR this month.
