Don't start with the Santa thing. This time of year I could crush a little kid's spirit very quickly. And, my god, the temptation is soooo strong.

I liked Richard Wright's Black Boy and something else he wrote, the title of which escapes me right now. I grew up in Mississippi surrounded by a racism I never understood or shared, so that's not really surprising, I guess.

Assuming you're talking about Toni Morrison and not the bible pr0n, yes, I think so, but I don't remember anything about it. I took a class in undergrad about African American lit or something. I have to admit that 99% of the stuff we read was crap from a literary standpoint.Gawdzilla wrote:FBM, have you read "Song of Solomon"?FBM wrote:I liked Richard Wright's Black Boy and something else he wrote, the title of which escapes me right now. Edit: Googled "Song of Solomon". Nope. Didn't read it and from the description, am pretty happy about it.

Yeah, the Morrison. Remember the "Seven Days"? Seven guys who, when they heard of a white person killing a black, would go out and randomly kill a white person? At the end our hero, "Milkman", is fighting one of these guys. I pointed out in class that the fight didn't end because it hasn't yet. We are still fighting thinking like that, blind eye-for-an-eye revenge that keeps the cycle of violence going. The entire book leads up to making that point and does it beautifully. (If an old cracker like me can "get it", anybody can.)FBM wrote:Assuming you're talking about Toni Morrison and not the bible pr0n, yes, I think so, but I don't remember anything about it. And the fight will never end if we just replace race with religion or nationality or something else.Gawdzilla wrote:Yeah, the Morrison. Remember the "Seven Days"?
