Anyway, don't remember if I posted here before. But I'm English, German, and French-Canadian. I grew up on Wehr Road, in a small town in Massachusetts. Never gave it much thought growing up. You take such things for granted. But I recently found out it's a German word meaning "resistance" or "defense."
In all honesty I'm half French-Canadian, although I usually downplay this. Or I say I'm part French, conveniently leaving out the Canadian part. My German heritage I'm proud of, since I have a great admiration for Deutschland. But even though I'm only a quarter English, I usually emphasize this vein of my heritage since I have such an affinity for everything English.

My Mothers ancestors go back to 12th century Leinster, they invited the Normans over, who then bludgeoned my fathers ancestors and kicked them out of mid southern Ireland to the west coast where they were then bludgeoned by the English. The mothers lot then moved to Belfast where they were then bludgeoned by protestants. My fathers grandfather had to leave the west coast during 1920/21 for doing a bit of bludgeoning himself and settled here. My mother got sick of all the bludgeoning in belfast so she moved here. So far I havent been bludgeoned by anyone...... (not badly anyway)......
