Okay, I just finished watching all three of the EXT videos. It's still a great film, one movie in three parts. The plan to do all of them at the same time was just fucking brilliant.

Very much agreed! It's well worth watching again with the commentaries, (in your spare time), the one with the cast is hilarious!Gawdzilla wrote:Okay, I just finished watching all three of the EXT videos. I don't like the commentaries, they shift the movie out of "suspension of disbelief" for me. I like the "extras" in some EXT versions. The bit about Mortenson buying Brego for his handler was particularly nice. Brenda cried when she saw that part.Geoff wrote:Very much agreed! The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

So he bought the horse for the guy who had trained him for the movie? Shit, they must have gotten attached. That's sweet.
Mortensen seems like an all-around great guy, I checked out some of his music too, he's done some awesome things with Buckethead.

It was a lady, and you could tell she absolutely loved that horse. She was crying talking about the time she thought she'd never see him again.FrigidSymphony wrote:So he bought the horse for the guy who had trained him for the movie? Shit, they must have gotten attached. That's sweet.

Another fun bit is when Viggo talks about his swords. He was very picky about them, and insisted on his "special" blade when he had to fight.

You're having a debate about LOTR and no one thought to invite me?

A few scenes with Goldberry would have been nice.Gawdzilla wrote:Oh.Elessarina wrote:Yes!!!Gawdzilla wrote:Oh, are you interested in the books?Elessarina wrote:You're having a debate about LOTR and no one thought to invite me?

A few nights would have been better. I think Tom would have been cool with that.DP wrote:A few scenes with Goldberry would have been nice.Gawdzilla wrote:Oh.Elessarina wrote:Yes!!!Gawdzilla wrote:Oh, are you interested in the books?Elessarina wrote:You're having a debate about LOTR and no one thought to invite me?

no, not at all.. they also left other characters out and changed who said dialogue, where things were said. The whole experience of Frodo and Sam with Faramir.Gawdzilla wrote: So, are you miffed that they left Tom Bombadil out of the movie?
I understand and respect all of PJ's changes because film is a different medium than literature.and I think he did an amazing job.
The one thing I DID NOT like was that "has Aragorn died faling off a cliff ?" thing in The Two Towers.. that was unnecessary and OTT I thought

I didn't see the point in that, either. Brenda was furious about that. (She took LOTR a lot more seriously than I did.)Elessarina wrote:no, not at all.. they also left other characters out and changed who said dialogue, where things were said.
