Roy Orbison
Is Roy Orbison a neglected genius of popular music? He was very 'uncool' when I was a teenager but I have listened to some of his songs lately and they are really something. They are also uniquely structured, often without a chorus for example.
I am going to listen more! I suspect I am going to discover something wonderful.

Re: Roy Orbison
Uncool? Really? Herm
I don't know. He's slightly before my time but the impression I get is that he was always very well regarded here in the States, though he kinda dropped out of sight for many years until Jeff Lynne helped him with his comeback album. Always meant to pick that up. Anyway, he died shortly thereafter

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

It's hard for a guy with his mug and taste in sunglasses to remain popular.

Re: Roy Orbison
Great singer, great voice, and one of only four acts to have a hit in the UK every year during the 1960s. But also check out his rockabilly stuff from the 1950s on the Sun label, especially his own compositions Ooby Dooby [later covered by Creedence Clearwater Revival] and Rockhouse.Rum wrote:Is Roy Orbison a neglected genius of popular music? And all our yesterdays have lighted fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out brief candle
Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing. [Macbeth]
It am wicked to mock the afflicted. [BH (Calcutta), failed]
Dope will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no dope. [Freewheelin' Franklin]

One of the hottest songs when I was in high school.
And then the fucking Beatles showed up.
