In 1898, fourteen years before the Titanic disaster, an author named Morgan Robertson wrote a short story called "Futility".
It was about a ship, 800 feet long, 75,000 tons (the Titanic was 882 feet long, displacing 66,000 tonnes) which was the biggest in the world and was considered to be unsinkable.
It had three propellers and two masts (the same as the Titanic), it left on its maiden voyage (same as the Titanic) from Southampton (same as the Titanic) in April (same as the Titanic).
Morgan's ship carried 24 lifeboats, "...as few as the law allowed", for her 3,000 passenger capacity (the Titanic carried 20 for 3,000 under BoT regulations).
While travelling too fast (25 knots), Morgan's ship hit an iceberg 400 miles from Newfoundland (the Titanic, travelling at 22.5 knots hit an iceberg...400 miles from Newfoundland).
Morgan's ship sank, killing more than half her 2,500 passengers. The Titanic sank, killing more than half of her 2,200 passengers.
The name of Morgan's ship?
The Titan.
