Nice theory, but I have questions.

Post by Gawdzilla Sama » Mon Nov 02, 2009 5:15 pm

Jay Melosh has put forward that a global firestorm killed the dinos, and only burrowing animals (or animals that could duck under water) such as reptiles, mammals, some birds, survived because they were underground.

My issues:

1. Were there NO dinos that burrowed?

2. What about the aquatic dinos?

Clearly crap then. You have shot holes in the theory.

I read that is is more likely we had a nuclear winter type scenario where so much dirt and dust was in the air because of the impact that only warm blooded creatures could survive. Plus a few isolated creatures (which crocs etc) would have evolved from. But who knows..

Recently I've seen:

Incinerator Earth.
Nuclear Winter from comet(s).
Dino diseases.
Siberian Traps Gone Wild.

Sigh.

"Dinosaurs" are not aquatic, by definition, IIRC.

The meteor hitting the earth scenario, would have cause drastic climate change.
Look at the sea's today, and the effect CC is having.

True, and I've seen half dozen variations on that, with and without diseases brought by the comet/meteor, with and without the Siberian Traps pitching in, etc.

There are indeed "just" birds, and birds are "just" dinosaurs.

People keep making this error, but I'm not going to quit getting arsey about it.

In that case we're all cynodonts.

Back to my point about cynodonts. If we insist that birds are dinosaurs, then we should insist that humans are cynodonts. I think it better to say birds evolved from dinosaurs, specifically therapods.
