The best reason to burn down a forest
I actually am a big supporter of ecosystem protection, but this just pisses me the fuck off:

Not sure what you didn't like about that, but I found this quote to be interesting.andrewclunn wrote:I actually am a big supporter of ecosystem protection, but this just pisses me the fuck off:

Earlier this year Williams said that God was not a "safety net" that would guarantee a happy ending and that human pillaging of the world's resources meant the planet was facing a "whole range of doomsday prospects" that exceeded the results of global warming.

When the CofE moves all of its investment portfolio into renewable energy companies and panda conservation, people might take it seriously re the environment. Last I heard, they had £17.2 million of Exxon Mobil shares. How very green.

The CofE also has a substantial investment in an Indian bauxite mine that supplies material to India's nuclear weapons programme.

The AB is an intelligent man and clearly struggles with his 'faith'. I fully expect him to announce his atheistic revelation one of these days.

He might well be an atheist for all we know, he'd hardly be the first bishop who was.Rumertron wrote:The AB is an intelligent man and clearly struggles with his 'faith'. I fully expect him to announce his atheistic revelation one of these days.![]()
But announce it to the world? Dream on! Why would he jeopardise his cushy position as head of that nice little racket?
When you're though with 'lying for Jesus' there's still good-old-fashioned 'lying for self interest' after all.

Such cynicism in one so young. I am a lucky man. As I get older I do the reverse of what seems to be expected - I assume people are honestly motivated as a starting position. Call me a silly Billy if you will.Horwood Beer-Master wrote:He might well be an atheist for all we know, he'd hardly be the first bishop who was.Rumertron wrote:The AB is an intelligent man and clearly struggles with his 'faith'. So do you believe that this man is just expressing an honest opinion?Rumertron wrote:Such cynicism in one so young. I am a lucky man. I will grant you exceptions!..especially those whose livelihood depends on taking a position. The AB I rather suspect would 'come out' however if he ever had a crisis of confidence..and even if he didn't I rather like the poor old clod and will give him the benefit of the doubt (arf!)andrewclunn wrote:So do you believe that this man is just expressing an honest opinion?Rumertron wrote:Such cynicism in one so young. I thought the best reason to burn down a forest was because there was smelly hippies living in the middle of it?

Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.

"panda conservation" is a waste of time and money. Humans are only hurrying up what natural selection is gonna do.
Put those resourses into something worthwhile.
I run with scissors. It makes me feel dangerous
