REAL welfare reform to help make British
poverty history

1. Respect for those who cannot work
● Those recipients of Incapacity Benefit who really cannot work will
receive continued support and will remain outside the return to work process.

2. Employment for those who can
● Every out of work benefit claimant who is capable of doing so will be
expected to work or prepare for work.
● A comprehensive programme of support for jobseekers including
training, development, work experience and mentoring.
● Welfare-to-work services to be provided by the private and voluntary
sector on a payment by results basis, according to their success in
returning people to sustainable employment.

3. Assessments for those claiming out of work benefits
● Rapid assessments for every recipient of out of work benefits
– for all new and existing claimants.
● The assessment process will determine how much welfare-to-work
providers are paid for placing a claimant in work.

4. Limits to claiming out of work benefits
● People who refuse to join a return to work programme will lose the
right to claim out of work benefits until they do.
● People who refuse to accept reasonable job offers could lose the right
to claim out of work benefits for three years.
● Time limits applied to out of work benefit claims, so that people who
claim for more than two years out of three will be required to work for
the dole on community work programmes.
Ex-squaddie pensioners to be called up again and shipped to fuck out to Afghanistan.

If they stick to that, fair enough.

That’s what my father said about the yanks when they arrived in the UK during the war.
“I wish no harm to any human being, but I, as one man, am going to exercise my freedom of speech. No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

I'm safe then because I'd never vote for that self-serving bunch of reactionary, imperialist, racist wankers. As for Cameron as Tory party leader, you can try to coat a turd in chocolate but it's still a turd inside.

Frankly, for the first time ever I don't know who to vote for. I have voted labour all my life, but they have fucked up of late.

Let's see how much further we can take the similes shall we? How about 'A turd covered in diarrhoea, being sicked on by a rabid dog' perhaps? :coffee:

I'm with you on that. I've always been a Labour supporter but I've had to vote Liberal for years because I live in a place where a Labour candidate doesn't even get a look-in. I'll vote Liberal next time for the same reason but if I lived somewhere where the Labour candidate had a chance, I'd be wavering because I HATE what Blair did with the Iraq war and I can't see that they have any potentially good leaders in the wings.

This is already the precondition for Job Seekers Allowance.

A 'programme' already exists. How comprehensive it is is a matter of opinion.
Devogue wrote:

Again already exists. The government uses it as a means of fiddling the employment statistics by counting people participating in these schemes as 'in training' rather than 'unemployed', the companies running training centres use it as a state funded cash-cow, and companies who get people referred on 'work experience' use it as a source of free labour.

You think the private sector would agree to those terms? Dream on!
Devogue wrote:

How rapid the assessments are depends on how many staff you hire to carry them out.
More staff = more taxes. Remember that.
Devogue wrote:

This, again, is already the case.
Devogue wrote:

The state would still have to support these people through poverty grants and stuff (I'm fairly sure there'd be laws preventing the state from just willingly letting someone starve to death).
Devogue wrote:

"Community work programmes"? That what we give petty offenders these days. Are you in favour of criminalising unemployment?
You do realise that being asked to work a 40 hour week just for your JSA, works out as a wage of £1.65 per hour? Would you fucking work for that?

The state has no right to demand someone risks death. The only reason current serving soldiers have to take that risk is because they've signed up for it. They have not however signed-up to taking that risk after they've left the service.
So the Tory plan is 'stuff Labour already does' plus some unworkable/immoral shit?

No that doesn't work! The turd is the Tory party covered by the chocolate coating of "Mr Nice Guy" Cameron. The Labour party isn't a turd: it's something good (think of something), which is currently coated in something bland, uninspiring and hopeless. I can't think of a succinct description right now - somebody else will.

If I could vote, I'd vote Tory. This seems complete counter my views but I believe there needs to be a divide between rich and poor, and that divide needs to be strengthened. I am sure that this can be achieved by having the Conservatives in power, their money orientated party will inspire a new age of radicalism in the lower classes. Political apathy will die. This is what I predict anyway, it seems wishful thinking but I sincerely enjoy roughing the feathers of society.

You never know, their rule might be short as it might be the death of them. It's happened to Labour, although their time in office can hardly be called short.

Well if you want to inspire radicalism why don't you support the BNP and help them get into Westminster? :D

I fear they would inspire a different form of radicalism, a radicalism that I would be obliged to fight with my bear hands.

It took serfdom to inspire the last great uprising in this country, so unless the Tories really are going to go all out and take us back to medieval England, we're not going to see any major revolutionary radicals popping up in great numbers or guillotines outside the palaces.

Read your history. We're the least revolutionary country in Europe, partly because the last time a majority of people had balls it was 1381 and partly because the political establishment are excellent (and have been for centuries) at providing enough reform to placate the average person but never provide enough reform to genuinely change anything. Whigs and Tories, Labour and Conservative, and a castrated populace grumbling about the weather and how it's the PM's fault. The record never changes.
