He's right - But he should still shut up!

Post by Horwood Beer-Master » Sat Oct 10, 2009 8:19 am

For once in his life Charles Windsor has expressed an opinion which isn't completely batshit. However he still shouldn't have expressed it, it's not his place to do so.

Sure there's a problem with "broadband deserts" in some rural areas, and I really think something should be done about it, but someone else could make the case. Why is it so hard for old bat-ears just to keep his mouth shut?

Well...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8298382.stm

As well as FTTC they are also rolling out a boosted ADSL:

ADSL2 extends the copper reach from about 5km to 20km (Though at 20km you'll still only get 512k), they only have to upgrade the main exchange equipment and the customer router.
Anyone getting 8Mb now would get 20Mb still on copper, without the several billion required for FTTP.

The rural desert, would be mostly (up to 98%), filled. There's not many people who live more than 20km from a telephone exchange.

As for Charlie, he needs better tech advice before opening his gob.
