Re: Barack Obama wins the Nobel Peace prize
Well sorry, but after 8 years of Bush even an untrained monkey could only improve diplomatic relationships. As for the nuclear disarmament, I am not so sure that that is a good thing but that is personal opinion.
And don't get me started on the environmental issues.

From that perspective, the very notion of this kind of award is bollocks.Psi Wavefunction wrote:Our lord the savior hath come to deliver us from ourselves, etc.... seriously, do people NEVER LEARN?![]()

Re: Barack Obama wins the Nobel Peace prize
I look at it as incentive for other people to try and do the same. The Peace Prize has been the "Oscar" of the diplomatic world ever since Nobel's guilt trip started. (And you gotta love 2,4-dinitrotoluene even if you're on the receiving end.)Charlou wrote:From that perspective, the very notion of this kind of award is bollocks.Psi Wavefunction wrote:Our lord the savior hath come to deliver us from ourselves, etc.... seriously, do people NEVER LEARN?![]()

This is probably the reason behind the decision. Compared to the war-monger Bush, Obama's like Gandhi, it's the committee's way of saying "fuck you" to the Bush administration.
At least I'm housebroken.

The election of Obama as well was such an amazing world-changing event. If he gets his health care reform sorted - maybe he'll get another one...

First they give one to Al Gore for his propaganda flick, now they give one to Obama, even though he's done all of shit since he's been in office. The Nobel prizes are now official leftist masterbation.
Nobody expects me...

Yeah, they should have given it to Osama bin Laden for his work increasing US/UK military cooperation.andrewclunn wrote:First they give one to Al Gore for his propaganda flick, now they give one to Obama, even though he's done all of shit since he's been in office. Re: Barack Obama wins the Nobel Peace prize
If the Nobel Committee did a comedy award, Bush would have got one
"I grow old … I grow old …
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled"
AND MERRY XMAS TO ONE AND All!

Re: Barack Obama wins the Nobel Peace prize
No, they should have given it to somebody who actually accomplished something. The Nobel awards are more and more about ideology (especially the non-scientific ones) than about actual accomplishments. If that's not the definition of bias then I don't know what is.

But the prize is about bias anyway.. it's awarded to a person, not an event.

Re: Barack Obama wins the Nobel Peace prize
Explains a lot.The Associated Press wrote wrote:_ Myth: The prize is awarded to recognize efforts for peace, human rights and democracy only after they have proven successful.
More often, the prize is awarded to encourage those who receive it to see the effort through, sometimes at critical moments.

Encouragement is vital to keep the ball rolling with the changes BHO is working on. The more he's recognized for trying, the more he can try.Elessarina wrote:andrewclunn wrote:No, they should have given it to somebody who actually accomplished something.
