Snow Lep Vs Win 7. Not as cut and dry.
I use both. I really REALLY like Windows 7. (Or more probably, Windows 7 is like not hitting yourself in the face, constantly. Like the "Vista" experience is.)
What problems did you have with Vista that frustrated you?
Let's see... there's nothing "fatal" but:
Performance in file handling.
Lack of Bluetooth stack.
Crash handling.
Boot up time.
Resource allocation.
Resource footprint.
File sharing security.
... there are more, but they are fairly minor. Most of these seem to have been fixed in 7.
The red items weren't issues for me, so I didn't notice a problem there. Crash handling didn't come up often enough to be important. File sharing security, Too much of that if you ask me.

My point about Vista, is that is was rushed. A lot of the "issues" were brought up on the MSDN newsgroups in beta even before it went to RC.

Oh, I agree with you, but on the whole, Vista hasn't been a real problem for me. The "permissions" issue is the only one I could complain about sincerely. So I will.

Why else would anyone pay 2-3 times as much for one?
Hell, for about 100 bucks more than an iMac, you can buy an Alienware computer (top of the line gaming computer if you're not familiar with it).
I can spend under $500 for a PC, or I can spend over $1000 for an iMac.
Very true. My netbook cost about $400. To get a Mac with the same RAM and memory, I'd have to spend $1000 to $1500. I've just not seen or heard anything that would make me want to part with that much more money for a Mac.
My biggest complaints about Vista were the fact that it is such a memory hog and the constant "Are you sure you want to do this?"

My main gripe, was that is was "shiny" so management types seemed to like it. But as a business OS it sucked hairy donkey balls, for the points I raised above.
As a home OS it was so-so. No great advantages over XP.
edit: Ayaan, you know you can turn the "Are you sure" shit off?

Yes, but I would turn it off and after a few days it would be back - never could figure out how to stop that. I don't use that computer much anymore since I got the netbook.

I don't know even 1/10th of computers as you guys do, but very often the Windows/Mac comparisons remind me of the WIS forum, where people would put the box and the steel composition as another comparison term. I want just 2 things from my computer: Speed and Security, and Linux (I use Ubuntu and Open Suse) has served me flawlessly the past 3 years. I also believe strongly that it is the one who is undergoing a fastest development and evolution and it is a boat to be in.
But I'll say it again: In the past 18 months, my computers running those systems, have had Zero issues.
In the same time, the ones at the office have had reinstalled the OS a couple of times, apart of the regular virus infection, un-uninstallable malaware, etc...
It's all about personal experiences, and mine couldn't be more positive. Speed & Security.
P.S. Has anyone used Open-Solaris as Desktop OS?

Are we counting hacked OS X running on custom built machines? Because that changes the equation as it's then only a software comparison rather than the underlying hardware tie in that is otherwise a precursor.

Why Gawdzilla and Adrew have the same Avatar?
... Everyone I know who has installed Leopard on other machines, have some features without working. They use to see who gets closer to 100% performance, but never expecting it... Is it even possible?

DO NOT QUESTION THE HYPNOTOAD!
And yeah, It can be done really effectively if you get the right hardware. Supposedly you can even install OS X on AMD chip machines, but I've never attempted that.

I seem to recall someone trying that commercially (the hacked box, not the AMD) and Apple spanked them hard in court for it. Phantom?

Aye. It was a while ago.
I think, the fact that IBM allowed it's architecture to be cloned is the single biggest reason for the success of PC based OSs. (Unix/Linux and of course the MS products.)
