There was a recent article on the BBC site about a treatment that had actually reversed Alz symptoms in mice.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8033422.stm

Even if the disease could not be completely reversed, how do you know it couldn't do enough good to bring your standard of life back to something you would prefer to no life at all?

Because our memories are what make us who we are, you might be able to continue living but it would be as a different person if the damage had progressed too far. That makes this a question closely tied to the clone thread.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

But maybe the new person - without those memories (or the bulk of them) might actually be nice. :hehe:

Then he definitely wouldn't be me.

But in a non-specific sense, what if you take this cure and can continue living but no longer remember your wife of 40 years, the new you may no longer feel the same way about her that you did, that would cause her considerable pain.
