BTW, one of the pitfalls in this debate is to accept the premise that:

(Hitler <> Christian) = (Hitler = Atheist)

But for him to be an atheist, he'd have had to have no religious/supernatural beliefs at all. And that does not seem to have been the case. So we might not know for sure what he was, but we have a better idea of what he was not.

Somehow, I think I'd plump for option 'B'. The old Seneca quote is very apposite here:

"Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful."

There are other questions that don't require that Hitler actually be a Christian at all for the answer to be damaging to Christianity. One is the extent to which Christianity fostered an anti-Semitic attitude in society generally. That might have rubbed off on Hitler even if he was never "religious".

Yeah, and that would be because moslem terrorists don't have B-52s. Or regular air forces. However, remember that WWII saw more bombs dropped than any time since, and the Americans and English dropped the most of them. (Which, of course, is why graeme used a 50 year window instead of a sixty year window.)
