Epstein clearly used money to manipulate and control others, and we shouldn't assume that her role in his and Maxwell's business was somehow equivalent to that of a regular employee in a regular job. The money that was settled, or awarded by the courts, in the civil actions against her abusers was one of the only available routes she had to hold some very powerful people to account. Another way was to speak about it publicly. She did both, at great personal cost.

Focusing on the money rather than the abuse, and basically calling her a gold-digger because of it, is rather poor form imo.

mac. She was a child when her abuse started. To say that she wasn't "truly abused" because of the money is to misunderstand her situation and the relationship between coercive control and sexual abuse.

Recent cases in the UK showed how vulnerable teenage girls were offered food, cash, alcohol, and drugs both and incentives to participate, as recompense for sex with older men, and as means of ensuring compliance and secrecy. Some of these girls even recruited others into being abused. To say these children weren't "truly abused" because they were getting something out of their abusers similarly misunderstands their situations and the relationship between coercive control and sexual abuse.

Sure, there's questions to ask about what she did in Epstein-Maxwell's business, but the primary source for this is still her own testimony, in court, in the media, and in print. Without that testimony we wouldn't know half as much about Epstein-Maxwell, and both of them might even still be at large.
