Four shark attacks in NSW in the last two days. I'll be staying out of the water this week I think.

"You arseholes can't attack Jews, that's our job!"
OK, so the neo-Nazis got angry when muslim extremists shot and killed many Jews, and wanted to blow up mosques and lynch the families of the shooters...In the hours after the Bondi terror attack, far-right associates of neo-Nazis threatened to kidnap the prime minister and send bombs to mosques through the post, prompting two separate police raids.
This masthead was leaked the apparent threats, including a recording of a man being offered $10,000 to rent a van and kidnap Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, from within an online chat room run by March for Australia organisers and filled with neo-Nazis in the lead-up to Monday’s anti-immigration rallies.
Days after the kidnap plot was discussed online, detectives swooped on a neo-Nazi associate at his Sydney home over a separate social media post, which also allegedly called for Albanese’s abduction.
Police are investigating, and they did not say if the cases are believed to be related.
‘A scary time’: Nazi terror links revealed as disbanding sparks fears of violence
But the chatroom, on the popular gaming platform Discord, offers a window into what experts and authorities warn is a growing underbelly of online extremism, as rhetoric again escalates before Australia Day rallies.
On the Discord server, promoted by a key March for Australia organiser, posts have become even more extreme. Among the swastikas, racism and rape jokes, pictures of the Christchurch mass murderer Brenton Tarrant are now appearing. These are coded threats, say extremism experts such as Matt Kriner, who analysed the server for this masthead, and a warning sign of outsized neo-Nazi influence on Australia’s right.
Hours after the Bondi Islamic terror attack, known neo-Nazi accounts joined other users in talk of marching on Sydney’s well-known Lakemba Mosque “to settle things”. The comments became so vile that moderators decided to wipe the chat server’s messages overnight – to stop the server being shut down by Discord for inciting violence, they said.
Police are now investigating after the same mosque in Lakemba was sent a separate threat this week, warning of co-ordinated violence as “revenge” against minorities at Australia Day rallies.
In the shadow of Australia’s worst terror attack, Kriner and other experts say far-right extremists are on a recruiting frenzy.
Within two hours of the Bondi shooting, neo-Nazi accounts were posting “hype edits” of the attack footage intercut with recruiting links and clips of Thomas Sewell, leader of the National Socialist Network (NSN), which has since disbanded to escape the government’s new extremism crackdown.
A flyer began circulating, calling for another Cronulla riot in retaliation for the Islamic State-inspired terror attack, which this masthead tracked to several accounts also sharing NSN content. A 20-year-old man has since been charged over that original post.
The day after the Bondi attack, some users on the Discord chat’s livestream channel discussed abducting the prime minister, a recording obtained by this masthead reveals.
‘Don’t mention Hitler and you’re sweet’: The great March for Australia deception
One man, then active in the chat who went by the username “cav” said he didn’t think there was a political solution to their aspirations to install a new “nationalist” regime. “I genuinely believe the best option is to is literally to f---ing grab him [Albanese] and put him in a room and force him to answer like every possible f---ing question,” cav said.
“Yes, but are you actually going to do it?” asked another user.
“I would, yeah,” cav replied. “And if anyone wants to … like rent the van and help f---ing come grab him with me. Like, yeah, let’s go.”
One user offered him $10,000 to carry out the plot, while another suggested they hold a proper debate with Albanese first, and later “abduct him” to force him to do what they say.
“Well, look at all the f---ing NSN guys, brother, surely there’s enough people to just f---ing like to pick him up,” said cav. “I’ve crossed into the f---ing realm of terrorism, bro.… The only way I would take power is through force.”
Just over a week later, another user of the same Discord server, “xertz”, said he had been raided by police after claiming in the same chatroom that he could make high-powered bombs to send to mosques – using cheap materials bought off Amazon – in posts obtained by this masthead.
“What do you think a mosque will do with a group of people funding it?” he wrote.
“There is a planned shooting new years in aus as well.”
Xertz, who had agreed with other users that there needed to be a “white Australia”, was eventually banned by moderators after posting about terror attacks.
“We all know what we’re thinking but please do not vocalise your more extreme thoughts as we would like to not get banned,” said a moderator. They added: the Bondi attack was a “perfect opportunity to redpill [radicalise] those closest to you”.
This masthead has identified multiple prominent neo-Nazis of the National Socialist Network active on that Discord chat, and it is promoted on the personal website of March for Australia organiser Hugo Lennon, a wealthy far-right influencer known to associate with the NSN. Lennon did not take part in such extreme discussions on the server, but continued to post announcements there after apparent threats were made, and users and moderators posted widely about subsequent police raids.
He told this masthead he hadn’t been aware of the specific threats, and condemned any calls for violence, saying he and March for Australia would never incite it. “My involvement in that server has been minimal and sporadic,” he said, and that such extreme rhetoric went against the rules he thought governed it, but did not reflect his own views.
While March for Australia organisers said the Discord was not an official March chatroom, its inner workings reveal it is used to help co-ordinate the rallies in dedicated March channels and moderated by others involved. One moderator is a key member of the Adelaide March team, for example, who frequently shares antisemitic and extreme views, openly champions the NSN on the server, and claims he was raided by counter-terrorism police himself last year.
Until the latest police raids on “xertz” and other users, some in the chat openly proclaimed their allegiance to the NSN through badges on their profiles. One user said they would stab police if they ever came to their door, while others shared stories of their own recent raids by counter-terrorism detectives, or scoffed at the crackdown, noting death and rape threats on the server were common.
Neo-Nazi Jacob Hersant, formerly second-in-command of the NSN, posted a video message on Telegram in the days after the raids, warning followers that discussion of terror plots online was often how police entrapped activists.
On Saturday, this masthead revealed the extent of the NSN’s entanglement with terrorists and extremist groups overseas, as experts warned those now cut loose from the neo-Nazi group’s orbit might be more volatile than ever.
In the same week that the Discord threats were uncovered, police carried out a separate raid on 27-year-old plumber Nathan Ballesty over another alleged threat to abduct the prime minister, which they allege was made online a few days after the Discord recording.
Ballesty is a long-time associate of the NSN, this masthead can reveal, part of neo-Nazi leader Thomas Sewell’s first group, The Lads Society. Down the years, Ballesty has been pictured with prominent neo-Nazis at events and in social media posts. But it is unclear if he was an active member of the NSN when it disbanded last weekend.
Police said they seized his phone and devices, and Ballesty had been released on bail, under strict conditions, including not to use Discord. They did not say if he was a member of the server under investigation.
Key March for Australia organisers, including self-proclaimed nationalist Bec Freedom, and white supremacist Matt Trihey, have been revealed as associates of neo-Nazis, despite previously denying the NSN’s involvement in the marches. Last year, chatlogs and footage obtained by this masthead exposed how neo-Nazi leadership used these far-right influencers to sell the rallies as a “spontaneous” groundswell of “everyday Australians”, while they sent undercover Nazis in to control the crowd.
At the first march on August 31, some neo-Nazis even donned yellow vests to act as official safety marshals, and Freedom was captured on film co-ordinating with key NSN figure Joel Davis in Sydney. The march in Melbourne descended into violence when the NSN stormed an Indigenous camp and allegedly attacked counterprotesters.
Freedom told this masthead she wasn’t on the Discord server, which was only loosely connected to the marches, and that she was not always monitoring the official March for Australia Telegram chat, where this masthead observed violent language was also common.
Within two hours of the Bondi shooting, March for Australia posted an early picture of the massacre aftermath to its official X feed, captioned: “The Australian government did this to you.” In its public chats, where many moderators have also openly posted NSN recruiting content, users discussed swarming the gunman’s family home and the need to set up a lynch mob.

Indeed. Irony is lost in these people though, and Race has always been a handy hook they can hang their underlying desires for violence on.
