I don’t know about you Tero, but I’m the angriest I’ve ever been. I’m holding it together quite well, but still wanted to share. How are the other Americans feeling?
Well, it's complicated. I got here as a teen and was not really rah rah America ever. I knew I would get a nice education while my dad had work. He paid two years of my college. Then I graduated. I did not feel like taking the job that I located in Ohio in the same town. Analyzing sewer water for the city. Things went along and by 1975 I was pretty much stuck here. I could still have sought work in Europe in 1980. I probably could have arranged even that, and not broken up with Mrs T. She spoke Scandinavian languages. We could have moved there, Finland had few jobs for me.

But then we stayed where my first job was for 13 years and we were even more stuck.

We had the two kids and things did not look all that strange in 1995. So we parents are responsible for the kids staying here. And the grandkids, as the kids are pretty stuck to their spouses. I can get them both a passport to get the hell out of here if needed. But it would be a bit of an effort for their spouses. Not many English speaking coutries in the EU.

So there we are then. And I feel somewhat resposible for all that. But I am scientist and did not need to have a political science degree for anything. I was not the one to ever predict any of this. I could see a bit of it coming only by Bush Jr term and 9-11.

Added comment: Finland had few jobs for me. But Sweden or UK were both OK, and Germany had plenty of jobs.

Trump’s forced return-to-office policy for federal workers is a disaster. Employees arrive to find no desks, no equipment, and no workspace, leading to chaos. Some are crammed into auditoriums without computers, while others drive miles just to route paperwork. At FEMA, supervisors were told to flip a coin for desks. Morale is in free fall, and productivity has collapsed.

The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist (French: vol de sirop d'érable du siècle, lit. 'maple syrup heist of the century') was the theft over several months in 2011 and 2012 of nearly 3,000 tonnes (3,000 long tons; 3,300 short tons) of maple syrup, valued at C$18.7 million (equivalent to C$24.1 million in 2023) from a storage facility in Quebec. The facility was operated by the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers (French: Fédération des producteurs acéricoles du Québec, FPAQ) which represents 77 percent of the global maple syrup supply.[1]

Adjusted for inflation, the heist is the most valuable in Canadian history.[2]

RFK Jr wants to do good scicence. It cannot be doing vaccines or drugs. Must be those natural cures
The layoffs are part of a broad effort by President Donald Trump and billionaire Trump adviser Elon Musk to reduce the number of workers across the entire federal government. The job cuts also came one day after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was sworn in to oversee HHS.

In a Thursday interview on Fox News, Kennedy was asked if half the HHS staff would be losing their jobs.
“I don’t know anything about 50% of people being cut,” Kennedy said. “I would be surprised if there were 50% cuts.”

He added: “If you’ve been involved in good science, you have nothing to worry about. If you care about public health, you have nothing to worry about. If you’re in there working for the pharmaceutical industry, I’d say you should move out and work for the pharmaceutical industry.”

From today’s Observer:
“A hideous idea doing the rounds is that Trump will make a state visit to Moscow timed to coincide with the May Day parade, which celebrates Russia’s military. What a grotesque spectacle: the supposed leader of the free world sitting with the Kremlin’s tyrant watching a march across Red Square by the army that has committed so many atrocities in Ukraine.”
Where else would Trump go for his annual performance review?

Maybe they're afraid of weakening Russia too much. But I've read since the beginning that abandoning Ukraine was always the end result. Is Trump just the perfect person to do it? :dunno:
