The US aluminum smelting industry is small by global standards. Total smelter capacity in the country was just 1.73% of the global total according to the US Geological Survey.3 days ago
Canada was 4th behind, China, India and Russia.
About half of all aluminum used in the U.S. is imported, with Canada its number one supplier.3 days ago
Electricity imports to the U.S. 2000-2023 https://www.statista.com/statistics/183 ... y-imports/
Oct 25, 2024 — The United States imported 38.92 terawatt-hours of electricity in 2023 from its neighboring countries Canada and Mexico.
Balance of trade in electricity is nearly equal between US and Canada.
Monthly average exports from the United States to Canada in 2023 increased 70% on a year-over-year basis to 1,809 gigawatthours (GWh), while monthly average imports from Canada to the United States decreased by 36% to 3,315 GWh. In 2023, the United States remained a net importer of Canada’s power on an annual basis, but the amount of electricity received fell sharply from 42 terawatthours (TWh) in 2022 to 15 TWh in 2023. The decline in imports from Canada was large enough that by September 2023 the United States switched to become a net electricity exporter to Canada, which continued for five of the next nine months, according to EIA’s Quarterly Electricity Imports and Exports Report.
That said - because electricity is not storable, those states dependent on Canadian power are greatly impacted.
Then of course there is oil....the US is HIGHLY dependent on Canadian crude from Alberta because it does not have refining capacity for the oil type the US produces.
None of oil, aluminum or electricity plants can be be built within the dumpfs term even if he did ignore the EPA
You’re right, aluminum imports have only increased since the 30-40% figure was put out. In fact I just read elsewhere that most recently it can be as high as 80%. Whatever the actual figure, the US increasingly relies on imported aluminum.
But that’s exactly the kind of fact to support this administration’s argument, isn’t it? (Can we really trust those Canadians…)
You’re going to love being an American!

Vance: forget Russia. Your problem is migrants/muslims.

Ukraine’s President said today that Ukraine has intelligence indicating a planned Russian invasion of a NATO country next year.
Seems likely to me. It’s clear Trump plans to collapse NATO and quite possibly invade Canada and Greenland. Collapsing NATO will allow Russia to take Eastern Europe, so there’s probably a deal in place.
All this talk of appeasement and distracting dialogues happening at the same time as Trump is flying in a massive amount of B-52 airpower onto his favourite aircraft carrier, the UK. Does look like this talk of talks might be one big distracting ruse before the hammer comes down?
US retail sales post largest drop in nearly two years in January
U.S. retail sales dropped by the most in nearly two years in January, likely because of frigid temperatures and moderation following hefty gains in the past four months, suggesting a sharp slowdown in economic growth early in the first quarter.
The larger-than-expected decline in retail sales reported by the Commerce Department on Friday was across the board. Economists speculated that rising prices and uncertain economic outlook amid confusion over tariffs on imports were forcing consumers to tighten their purse strings.
Pre-emptive buying in anticipation of tariffs that would raise prices for goods helped to boost retail sales in recent months. But consumer sentiment has deteriorated, with one-year inflation expectations hitting a 15-month high in early February as households perceived that "it may be too late to avoid the negative impact of tariff policy," a University of Michigan survey of consumers showed last week.

Donald Trump signs executive order that prohibits federal funding for COVID-19 vaccine mandates in schools: "Okay, that solves that problem… Yes, it'll go through the Department of Education."
I read somewhere the other day that 1000 people per day are dying of COVID in the US. Is that right?

How soon till the first GOP senator says that Trump is wrong? And that the USA is not the same thing as Mr Trump?
Tragic Monkey responds:
Trick question! Because they'll rebrand themselves and instead of being "Republicans" or "GOP" they'll be "Trumpicans" and "TOP". And the senate will be dissolved by the emperor. The Trumpican trumpators will only play a ceremonial role, in which they praise the Trump for his trumpastic trumpdeas to trumpsform the trumptry of Trumpica into a trumpadise on Trumpth.

Lyin' Chuck Schumer is at it again - with the help of Alex Soros (Little Georgie) scheming to undo all the GREAT WORK my administration is doing to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! We found thousands of cases of fraud, waste, and bad for them, receipts. Little Georgie funneled millions and billions of taxpayer dollars to Third World Countries like New Zealand and Congo. And now it's being reported that Democrats have created a "meme" coin - but that will fail like all of their other pathetic attempts to profit off the American people. Americans are smart and won't fall for the coin. MAGA!
I don’t know about you Tero, but I’m the angriest I’ve ever been. I’m holding it together quite well, but still wanted to share. How are the other Americans feeling?
