Crying and evolution
What, if any function does crying serve from an evolutionary point of view?
If there isn't an evolutionary purpose how did it arise and what is it for?

Are you talking about simple tearing, or weeping?Rumertron wrote:What, if any function does crying serve from an evolutionary point of view?

Re: Crying and evolution
Well both really? I sometimes cry at the beauty of a piece of music for example as well as because of, say - grief or some such. Seems odd we do both and feel sort of the same about both things.

Tearing is mechanical, IMHO, to clear the eyes. Weeping is an emotional response. Crying can be either.Rumertron wrote:Well both really? Re: Crying and evolution
Well saying it is an emotional response does not explain its evolutionary purpose, if indeed it has one. I am puzzled.Gawdzilla wrote:Tearing is mechanical, IMHO, to clear the eyes.
