You’d think a serious person would sit on this doubt, would fret over the consequences of any rash decisions, would understand the pressure to conform to a narrative, especially one that allows people to express fear and doubt and how valuable resistance to that might be, and above all would strive to tread as carefully as possible.

There was an alternative, absolutely there was! Imagine your “world leaders” downplaying Biden’s terrible debate. That could have been the story. They would have taken shit for it. But it wouldn’t have been abnormal. “Hey, I saw the debate and he looked bad, but that’s not unusual in US politics! Did you see Trump? I’m less worried about old than a deranged liar.”

As it happened us little folk may be forgiven for seeing a concerted effort to kill Biden’s campaign by people talking out of the side of their necks.
