Re: American Politics from 2019 on
On Threads: Trumpers are known to profess ignorance when asked about Trump's flaws and misdeeds.
Perhaps Dems should act accordingly. If asked if Biden's age is a problem, just say, "I don't know his age. Haven't heard about it. I think his age is probably fine. Too old? I haven't heard that and I don't believe it."

Elsewhere: I appreciate that Biden buys into the personal mythology of getting back up after being knocked down. I was taught that too. But he was not knocked down; he threw himself onto the canvas boxing an idiot.

CNN sticking to their story.
CNN: For more on how Biden's disastrous performance has cratered support among the undecided voters, let's go to our voting statistics expert
Expert: Well... it hasn't, not really. There was a little dip in the polls but that's already recovering. You have to realize that less than 4%* of the voting populace are genuinely undecided here. Everyone else who says they are are lying, they mean they're definitely not voting for X but might not vote for Y, which isn't the same thing. As long as Biden is drawing breath the race isn't going to change much-
CNN: There you have it, Biden may as well be in a coma! Turning to the next batch of political experts who've penned an opinion piece calling for Biden to step down...

with the dominionists losing all restraint in various states, you expect the GOP to elect a coherent, let alone inteligent pretender?Woodbutcher wrote: ↑Fri Jun 28, 2024 11:24 pmWhat a fucked up country! Can't they find any intelligent and coherent candidates, or would someone intelligent scare away the public?

The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

The Helsinki paper tried to go middle of the road. There is hope!
*AI failed there. The word is clearly resignation. This is what the president has to do until the November elections and when he wins them. Worry and criticism about age will not end.
Is he going to push forward, even by force?
THE BALL is now in Biden's hands.
In theory, the Democrats could still get behind someone else at the August caucus, but that would be a difficult road. In practice, some kind of systematic resistance movement would be needed to oust the sitting president from the candidacy.
Maybe that could happen if the big donors were to die or if Biden "froze" in the middle of another important appearance. In any case, it is more likely that Biden would suspend his election campaign of his own accord.
It would be a difficult place, of course. No one wants to give up the nomination they have already earned, especially after a tough review and against their will.
On the other hand, it has been estimated that Joe Biden, if anyone, could have the backbone to do so.
If the president really believed that extradition* would be a favor to the United States, he could swallow his pride and step aside.

I just don't know how they can be ambivalent about Trump.

Re: American Politics from 2019 on
If you can't vote Trump but, for whatever reason, can't bring yourself to vote for Biden either, then what option do you have? In a two party system, and one in which the candidate securing the majority of the national vote can still come second, voting can feel rather pointless. So why bother - at the end of the day nothing changes and they're all the same anyway, right?

Re: American Politics from 2019 on
The people involved in business and those with strong local issues in mind turn up to vote every time. We have an abortion refrendum on the ballot, to take it back to normal range from the current ban at 12 weeks. Also gender care is banned for those who are under 18.
So those voters are not excited about the president, but vote the party line. Because they showed up to vote.

Those most motivated to vote are those least likely to benefit from a fairly decided democratic election.

Re: American Politics from 2019 on
You would need a 6-3 supreme court in your favor to do this.
https://slate.com/news-and-politics/202 ... tball.htmlFirst, Biden resigns before the convention. Second, Harris succeeds him as president. Third, with what would be the unanimous assent of the Democratic Caucus (which is all she needs, if she needs even that), Harris appoints Barack Obama as her vice president and registers him as her running mate for the 2024 election.
The return of Obama—still very popular and the de facto head of the Democratic Party—would generate enormous excitement among party leaders, donors, and the general population. Other Democrats, who might have run for the top slot at a brokered convention, would lay such plans aside. A Harris-Obama ticket would almost certainly defeat Trump.
This scenario would not be unconstitutional. The 22nd Amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,” but it doesn’t forbid a former two-term president from running for vice president. True, as veep, Obama would be in a position to return to the Oval Office for a third term, should Harris die or resign. But this wouldn’t be a problem either. The amendment reads: “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” (Italics added.) It does not forbid subsequent succession to the office.
