Congress: we are setting ethics rules for SC!
SC: You can't do that, we're are independent!
Congress: we can, show me in the constitution where.
SC: Your move.
Congress: we are going to terminate your salary.
SC: we'll just take bribes then! Naah naah naah!

Threads
1/Justices who love the rule of law have a duty to restore the reputation of the institution they serve in. Instead of fighting for their right to continue to party at Harlan Crow’s expense, Justices should be embracing measures to restore the Court’s integrity.

2/Given the failure of the Court to police its own, Congressional action to require an ethics code is needed. Yesterday Senate GOP blocked a vote to fast track a bill that would've done that. The Court will be on the ballot if we insist it must be. We all should.
3/Over the next few weeks as this term of court ends a number of extremely important cases like presidential immunity and abortion rights will be announced. While we focus on the opinions, we also need to keep in mind how important ethics reform is, the go hand in hand.

538 unveiled its 2024 forecasting model this morning and it gives Biden a 53% chance of winning the election. The key to how we win in this model is our strength in MI, PA, WI, the blue wall states which get us to 269 Electoral College votes, or check as I’ve been calling it.

Assuming we win MI, PA, WI, winning either AZ, NC or NE-2 (our state targets) gets us to 270 or as I’ve been calling it, checkmate . Regardless of this initial 538 data run, I think we are most likely to win AZ and NC due to the extremism of AZ’s Kari Lake and NC’s Mark Robinson, who are likely to bring down the entire GOP brand in both states; and NE-2, the blue dot, where current polling has us ahead. There is a lot of data nerdery in this new 538 model but the bottom line is that it currently favors Biden, which is where I believe the election has been for some time now.

There are some MAGA conspiracy theorists on Xwitter who are saying that Biden won’t be the nominee. They’re predicting that he’ll be replaced at the convention. Most are saying that it’ll be either Gavin Newsome or Michelle Obama.

Louisiana has become the first US state to require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom, in the latest move by new Republican Governor Jeff Landry.

The legislation requires a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in "large, easily readable font" in all public classrooms, from kindergarten to state-funded universities.

The posters must be in place in classrooms by the start of next year.

They will each be paired with a four-paragraph "context statement" describing how the Ten Commandments "were a prominent part of American public education for almost three centuries".

You might think, but wait till the current Supreme Court has its say. The majority (right wing Christians, every one) has already shown repeatedly that under the guise of 'religious freedom' they're essentially on board with the 'Christian nation' nonsense. They've also shown repeatedly that despite their claims of 'originalism' and 'textualism' they're completely willing to ignore the original intent and the very words of the text if it suits their agenda.

This question was previously decided but again, the zealous majority on the current court has shown that well-established precedent is no barrier to them imposing their ideology on the country.

I won't go so far as to predict that they'll let the Louisiana law stand, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

The "religious freedom" argument is completely undone by going from allowing the display of the 10 Commandments to requiring it - not that that will overly concern the Supreme Court of Christian Talibanism.

I guess this is the solution to abysmal graduation rates, and a failure to teach students basic math and reading by 14. Or maybe I’m looking at it wrong. Maybe this is meant to be the solution to the consequences of dumbing down. :dunno:
Imagine that. I guess it's only coincidental that you'd already be the perfect citizen in the ideal world you're selling.

But will it work? Will it stop middle schoolers from committing adultery. Wait..they are not adults. And all this coveting. Is it the neighbor's house of wife the middle schoolers are not coveting.

And what about wanking? How shall they pay for that?
