When I hunted many years ago, the ethical choices were very easy - go for feral, non-native animals, of which Oz has too fucking many...

Rabbits, foxes, wild pigs and goats, camels, deer, water buffalo, feral cats, donkeys...

I only had the opportunity to shoot rabbits (many) and foxes (one)

Yeah, that’s a good idea. We’ve got a lot of wild pigs, and he’s expressed an interest in hunting them.

You'd need something a little bigger than a .22 for those... ;)

My son has been asking about hunting, so I’ll likely be looking at picking up a new rifle soon.

In the meantime I’ve encouraged him to learn as much as possible about the animals he plans to hunt. So far that’s already lead to crossing a few off the list of potentials… :smoke:

Squirrel is not very good.

He’s learned how big they are, where they live, if they live together, how long they live, those sorts of things.

I mostly used to shoot rabbits on Bron's parent's farm. Nobody there would eat them (personally, I quite like them...) but the farm dogs sure liked them. As a side interest, I skinned them and tanned the skins...

Well it happened.
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN/Gray News) - Police in North Carolina said the gun a 3-year-old accidentally shot and killed himself with was taken out of a locked safe by a 13-year-old.

The Greenville Police Department said officers responded to a call about a shooting at Wildwood Villas on Beech Street Friday night. After an initial investigation, the officers determined the 3-year-old, identified as Kayden Swinnely, had shot himself.

If only there'd been a good 2 year-old with guns to stop him.

Yeah I lived 18 years in MO and my daughter still lives there.

"The Kansas City shooting marks the 48th mass shooting in 2024
From CNN Staff
Today's shooting in Kansas City is at least the 48th mass shooting in the United States so far this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

Zeroing in on Missouri, there have been at least 154 mass shootings in the state since 2013, not including today's shooting, according to a CNN analysis."

Everybody should be armed and wearing bulletproof vests. Never go into public places without at least six armed friends one of whom*
carries a semi-automatic or automatic rifle with several clips of 50 bullets, preferably fragmentary. The Osteen church shooting was excellent, god wanted it to happen because he didn't stop it!

Supreme court to decide on what the Militia Amendment means as far as AR15s and bump stocks. Did the founding fathers intend you to own muskets that fired 9 bullets per second?
Many judges who’ve ruled against the bump stock ban point to something called the “rule of lenity” to justify that decision. Generally speaking, this rule establishes that, when a criminal law is ambiguous, it should be construed in favor of defendants. As the Supreme Court said in Rewis v. United States (1971), “ambiguity concerning the ambit of criminal statutes should be resolved in favor of lenity.”

But the rule of lenity is also a very weak peg to hang any legal decision upon. That’s because, in Barber v. Thomas (2010), the Supreme Court concluded that “the rule of lenity only applies if, after considering text, structure, history, and purpose, there remains a ‘grievous ambiguity or uncertainty in the statute,’ such that the Court must simply ‘guess as to what Congress intended.’”
