Genetic Engineering and a One Species Planet

If science continues isn't it inevitable that as genetic engineering becomes perfected the development of a one species planet will manifest. Food produced technologically not counting as a life-form. Similar to the grey goo argument on a larger scale. Can't figure why this isn't already a fun idea being discussed in the remaining science forum echo chambers?

As genetic engineering becomes more sophisticated building a swiss knife species might be a better option than having a genetically evolved/engineered competition for resources that results in interspecies nuclear or biological war. You'll get what I mean in a couple or three years now I've given you the idea. Claim it was your idea all along by then.

Grow plant like biological matter in plastic vats? Wouldn't need to be alive in the conventional sense, like fungus sort of undead food.

With enough sophisticated and fine grained genetic replication/engineering you can make food with no evolutionary or life like characteristics. Baker man makes bread everyday. With no understanding of genetics. Far more can be achieved with some understanding in due course. No doubt.

What's going to convert CO2 to O2? We'll choke without that conversion. Not to mention the greenhouse effect.

Functionally we're pretty much a one species planet already. Aufie's idea merely represents his own alienation from the natural world and the environment, upon which he simultaneously depends for his existence and resents for its mortal limitations. This conflict is confused for a naturalistic normative.
