It's just right-wing trigger words. They don't actually mean anything. :tea:

Ted Cruz, just being his usual rotten shitbird self...
So, someone created a fake story, slapped @abbyohlheiser's byline on it even though they haven't worked at The Atlantic since 2014, which has led to a bombardment of harassment, and now a U.S. Senator is sharing said fake article.

It might work. Enough 'middle of the road' Democratic voters like the sound of a candidate like Johnson for her to be an effective spoiler. The largest single political donor in Oregon, Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, has been a staunch backer of Republican candidates. He apparently thinks she could do the job (of spoiler): 'Phil Knight Wrote Betsy Johnson a $2 Million Check Sept. 1'

Is this a coincidence or a non-Trump Republican tactic? A centre-right independent could be very appealing to voters who'd never vote Democrat and/or would stay at home for a MAGA Republican.

After giving Johnson a total of $3.75 million, Knight most recently gave Christine Drazen, the Republican candidate, $1 million. She's currently holding a slim lead in the polls.

Ultra left radicals! reckless spending causing inflation! No. That and other talking points.
They claim that inflation is due to Biden’s spending, and wage increases
Baloney. The major cause of the current inflation is the global post-pandemic shortage of all sorts of things, coupled with Putin’s war in Ukraine and China’s lockdowns.

The major domestic cause of the current inflation is big corporations that have been taking advantage of inflation by raising their prices higher than their increasing costs.

Here are the facts:

Inflation can’t be explained by any of the Republican talking points.

Biden’s spending? Rubbish again. That can’t be causing our current inflation because inflation has broken out everywhere around the world, often at much higher rates than in the US.

Democrats shouldn’t focus only on abortion in the midterms. That’s a mistake

Besides, heavy spending by the US government began in 2020, before the Biden administration, in order to protect Americans and the economy from the ravages of Covid-19 – and it was necessary.

American workers getting wage increases? Wages can’t be pushing inflation because wages have been increasing at a slower pace than prices – leaving most workers worse off.

The biggest domestic culprits are big corporations using inflation as an excuse to raise prices above their own cost increases, resulting in near-record profits.

US corporate profits are at the highest margins since 1950 – while consumers are paying through the nose.

Let’s be clear: the biggest domestic cause of inflation is corporate power. Republicans are lying about this to protect their big corporate patrons.

“I think it was a complex confluence of factors related to, but not inherently caused by, a sort of increasing distrust in police, increasing de-policing, and exacerbated but not caused by the pandemic, and a nation awash in guns,” Asher said, stressing he was offering only a hypothesis.
:hehe: —on Houston’s share of the recent increase in crime across the country. Apparently we’re only middle of the pack in murders. But that’s not because we aren’t trying! There are shootings every day.

Many economists say the GOP's plans to expand the tax cuts flies against their promises to fight inflation and reduce the federal deficit, which have emerged as central themes of their 2022 midterm campaign rhetoric. Tax cuts boost inflation just like new spending, because they increase economic demand and throw it out of balance with supply.

Newt Gingrich, who served as the speaker of the House in the 1990s and is in communication with senior Republican leaders, said a similar strategy was successful at forcing both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama to enact tax cuts that they would not have otherwise supported, after both of those Democratic presidents lost control of Congress.

Biden is likely to find himself in a similar position, Gingrich said.

"The trick is to put the president in a position of either getting defeated in 2024 or signing your stuff into law," Gingrich said.

"Republicans will make it a priority to continue the Trump tax cuts, because it puts the Democrats in a position of being for tax increases and against economic growth."

Rep. Adrian Smith (R-Neb.), one of the contenders to lead the Ways and Means Committee in a GOP House, told C-SPAN last month that the first legislation he would aim to advance would be to extend the 2017 GOP tax cuts for individual taxpayers.

Without a filibuster-proof majority, Republicans would likely have to peel off several Democrats to pass such measures through the Senate to force Biden's hand.

The GOP would be better off admitting we will have inflation but push the idea "we will put money in your pocket."

Aside from abortion issues, GOP plan to create chaos on many fronts.

Democrats will have all kinds of programs held hostsge. Democrats will have to agree to slash soc security and Medicare, possibly Obamacare. Otherwise "terrible things will happen."
