I have a couple of Finnish Americans telling me the politics is normal and he can't wait till the Nov election is over, we are freaking out toi much. He will be happy for GOP taking the senate and he will just suffer the last two years under Biden, but in 2024 everything will be fine. Move along, nothing to see here!

No, it's not fine. A non-elected branch of government is basically writing law. Biden must act now. Election day will be too late. We will have no way to stop republicans at the state level in 2023 and 2024.

A couple of pregnancy related cobditions. Temains to be seen how miscarriages are handled:

Chelsey Youman, national legislative adviser to the pro-life Human Coalition, told World magazine there is "no law that would outlaw ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage treatment," adding, "All of those treatments are done with the intent to treat a health care diagnosis, not with the intent to end the life of an innocent human being, and that’s a very important distinction to make."

Every US election has abortion as a "litmus test" for candidates. But this is different:

And while abortion is not the most important issue on voters’ minds, it’s clearly more important than it has been in any recent election. In May, Gallup found that 27% of Americans said they would only vote for a candidate who shared their views on abortion. This was higher than Gallup has measured in any midterm or presidential election year going back to at least 1992.

Meanwhile, the percentage of voters who said it would not be a major issue was down to just 16%. That’s by far the lowest Gallup has measured in an election year.

Amy C-Barret (judge) was from South Bend, Indiana, where aggressive anti-abortion groups operate:
The Indiana doctor who recently provided an abortion to a 10-year-old rape victim whose story has garnered national attention faced serious threats in the past and is named on an extreme anti-abortion website linked to Amy Coney Barrett before she was a supreme court justice.

Dr Caitlin Bernard testified last year, in a case involving abortion restrictions in Indiana, that she was forced to stop providing first-trimester abortions at a clinic in South Bend. She stopped the procedures after she was alerted by Planned Parenthood – who in turn had been alerted by the FBI – that a kidnapping threat had been made against her daughter.

Bernard is still listed on the Right to Life Michiana website. It is a common tactic employed by anti-abortion groups that supporters of abortion rights have said invites threats of violence and intimidation against abortion providers.

Neither Bernard nor her attorney could be immediately reached for comment

Why don't we just have the US write our constitution this way? By referendum.
RED-STATE KANSAS REJECTS ANTI-ABORTION AMENDMENT

Kansas may seem like an unlikely place for abortion rights supporters to notch a major victory.

But on Tuesday, voters in the conservative state resoundingly rejected a constitutional amendment that would have allowed the Legislature to ban abortion. It was the first major test of voter sentiment since the Supreme Court ruling in June to rescind the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion nationwide.

The amendment would have allowed the Legislature to overturn a 2019 state Supreme Court decision declaring access to abortion a “fundamental” right under the state constitution.

Kansas currently allows abortion until the 22nd week of pregnancy. After that, abortion is allowed only to save a patient’s life or to prevent “a substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function.”

Gov. Laura Kelly, a Democrat who supports abortion rights, has warned that the Republican-led Legislature’s efforts to ban abortion would hurt the state. On Tuesday it became clear that many voters agree with her.

because those weren't in fashion back when the framers made up the modalities to amend the USC, and by now, changing those would be an amendment in itself and would probably never pass.

When industrial civilization collapses where will this debate be? Die having a abortion or die trying? Still be a valid moral argument for the super-rich in their gated communities I guess?

ended up with changes such that 10 year olds that were raped no longer need to give birth.
