I think I will start a flea market soon. I'll get some tips from my brother in law. He goes to estate sales where he does not buy much of anything. He wanted to be an auctioneer once.

Re: The Joe Rogan thread
It makes more sense to me to get upset at who he talks to because of who they are, rather than because of any risk they pose as guests on Rogan's podcast.
For example, he interviewed Alex Jones. This man has harassed victims of school shootings ffs...

The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

Re: The Joe Rogan thread
One of the problems is spreading covid misinformation. Personally I think he can interview anyone and say whatever he likes (short of vilification etc). Of course Spotify is free to decide whether it wants him on their platform.
I don't buy into the argument that he has a responsibility to factual rigour due to his large following. What's the threshold where someone becomes too big to freely state their own (and other's) opinions?

Oh guests. Just ratings matter there. You need people who immediately cause a reaction, and listeners stay on. Collecting all the advertising money they can get. However Spotify does that.

Guy explains how he works his ads into Spotify. The subscription customer (no ads) money flows to Rogan by some formula.

Hyperbole like 'How will you challenge corporate friendly media at scale when every channel that challenges conventional orthodoxy is tarred as a racist grift?' makes me thirsty for something suitably salutary. Mr Walker's amber restorative comes to mind, but I'm not that particular.

I hear you. It's probably just a fact that this kind of discourse: emotional, and importantly, time sensitive, is going to generate mostly noise.L'Emmerdeur wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 6:55 amHyperbole like 'How will you challenge corporate friendly media at scale when every channel that challenges conventional orthodoxy is tarred as a racist grift?' makes me thirsty for something suitably salutary. Rants about the creeping authoritarianism of the wokist left in conjunction with tech oligarchy are all very well. So are rants about the horrible mistake we make when looking askance at neighbors who still largely support the lies of a wannabe autocrat, even via violence. It's all rather concerning.

Fucking hell. That, in conjunction with the hundreds of laws making it more difficult for voters who are likely to vote Democrat to vote, makes the survival of democracy - such as it may be said to exist - frighteningly uncertain. In the recently released NPR poll, more than half of Republicans still refuse to accept the results of the 2020 election despite all the evidence and court decisions confirming the legitimacy and accuracy of the election. Indeed, two-thirds of Republican respondents agree with the false claim that “voter fraud helped Joe Biden win the 2020 election,” a key pillar of the Trump political machine.
These two polls point to several crucial lessons emanating from the January 6 attack: First, the potential for political violence remains high. In the recent poll, one-third of Republicans agree that “it is OK to engage in violence to protect American democracy.” The Trump political machine now is a large tent that includes white supremacists, the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys and others who often participate in political violence. Trump’s rhetoric before and after the election advancing the Big Lie about a “stolen” election is a main driver behind this violence. Trump used the language of conflict when he said on January 6 to “fight like hell” and to “take the country back.”

By cutting off the video you spared yourself hearing more of Ms. Ball's concerns re: the threat to democracy from tech oligarchy and bigoted leftists. I admit I got through it by turning the sound off and using the captions.

Krystal Ball's voice and delivery are almost enjoyable - compared to Ben Shapiro's.L'Emmerdeur wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 5:47 amBy cutting off the video you spared yourself hearing more of Ms. Ball's concerns re: the threat to democracy from tech oligarchy and bigoted leftists.
