Some Covid masks are better than others. I know – I’m the Mask Nerd
Cloth or surgical masks just don’t cut it – respirators are far more effective, and they’re comfortable too

As a mechanical engineer with a background in aerosol science, I often wondered why months into the pandemic we were still using cloth masks. People used similar coverings during the Spanish flu pandemic in 1919, more than 100 years ago. I knew better mask technology existed, and people needed to know about it.

So I embarked on a year-long mission to test, document, and review the best masks I could find. This eventually entailed building a mini aerosol laboratory in my bathroom, with scientific instruments capable of measuring particles 1/50,000th the width of a human hair. I have a public database for my results. And a Youtube channel. Over time I began to be known as the Mask Nerd.

This guy makes them but no cloth or reusable.

Good to see you've moved away from your original view that masks don't work.

I have never said masks dont work. Just that 99.9% of the crap out there does not work and makes situations even worse. Who goes to this level of buying a mask? How about the free ones? All useless which it what this guy is claiming.

Omicron is ‘not the same disease’ as earlier Covid waves, says UK scientist
Sir John Bell says disease ‘appears less severe’ as other scientists criticise lack of new restrictions in England

Omicron is “not the same disease we were seeing a year ago” and high Covid death rates in the UK are “now history”, a leading immunologist has said.

Sir John Bell, regius professor of medicine at Oxford University and the government’s life sciences adviser, said that although hospital admissions had increased in recent weeks as Omicron spreads through the population, the disease “appears to be less severe and many people spend a relatively short time in hospital”. Fewer patients were needing high-flow oxygen and the average length of stay was down to three days, he said.

Omicron jump started. In a week from 300 000 cases a day to 500 000.

Fairy data I am afraid. Even our booster data is fucked as plenty of Dutch wanting to go on winter holidays are going into Germany to get it (walk in no appointments) on their way to Austria. This jab is not recorded in the Dutch system. The Austrians are welcoming them with open arms as after the disaster of last year. This is not a few thousand either as Austria was always the favourite winter vacation country.

US
The CDC originally forecast last week that the Omicron strain represented 73% of cases for the week that ended Dec. 18. That has since been revised down to 22.5%.

BUT: Omicron accounted for 58.6% of cases for the week that ended Dec. 25.
