Lockdowns, WTF is wrong with these people? South Africa is reporting a 1.7% hospitalization rate for omicron, as opposed to a 19% rate for Delta. It's like a goddamn head cold. We've got 24 patients in the hospital with it in Sarasota - twenty-fucking-four, 80% of whom are unvacinated. We had literally thousands at the peak of Delta.

Jesus I can't believe anyone listens to a single politician about anything these days. They're all just lying sacks of totalitarian shit. Fuck all of them sideways.

Except Daddy DeSantis, of course! DeSantis for Emperor!
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Sarasota is special. Everything Floridian is special. Looking at the US as a whole, the number of currently hospitalised Covid patients has increased by 50% in the past five weeks.

SA is a young population...you'll have thousands just like everywhere else

It doubles every 48 hours and having had it is no prevention nor is being double vaxxed...that only keeps a severe outcome away.

You know what exponential growth is. This doubling every day. Even if it's way less severe and doubles every 2-3 days it will overload the hospitals with sheer numbers in about 3 weeks. SA went from a handful of cases to 90% Omicrom in 2 weeks

Day 12: 20.
Day 13: 40.
Day 14: 81.
Day 15: 163.
Day 16: 327.
Day 17: 655.
Day 18: 1,310.
Day 19: 2,621.
Day 20: 5,242
Day 21: 10,485.
Day 22: 20,971.
Day 23: 41,943.
Day 24: 83,886.
Day 25: 167,772.
Day 26: 335,544.
Day 27: 671,088.
Day 28: 1,342,177
Day 29: 2,684,354.
Day 30: 5,368,709.

Today the institute reports 16,080 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 3,292,609.

Even if it less severe .....it will devastate the hospital systems with sheer numbers. Sure fewer deaths per million, but more millions of cases.

London’s ambulance service is in the midst of a severe crisis, with 100 emergency service vehicles taken off the road for two days in a row due to hundreds of staff being unable to work because of Covid, The Independent can reveal.

The lockdowns are to slow the spread. I wore a mask in Cairns today for only the second time this year even tho there are only two cases both in quarantine.....and yes it was required.
That kind of quick reaction is why Queensland only has 7 deaths since day one.

That will change because our idiots are going ahead opening up.
NSW has recorded 2,482 new COVID-19 cases, the most daily infections reported by any Australian state or territory since the pandemic began, and the majority of them are "likely" Omicron cases.

I think that is typical in Europe and even in the UK but subject to chumocracy of course (somebody will make a buck out of it).

What a fucking joke. You just dont have the population and it is as simple as that. You also have a very hostile environment for a virus which thrives in cold and damp conditions. A quick reaction only happens on a Friday afternoon at a beer station.

The virus needs warm and damp conditions. The reason seasonal flu is more prevalent in the winter is because people spend more time together indoors, with the heating on and the windows closed. Same for all respiratory infections.

Of course, that's just what the dictators were banking on when they designed the virus. :tea:

Requiring a cold and damp environment to start with otherwise windows would not be shut.

I would not go to say that far but politically it has been handy world wide in many countries. Especially blurring Brexit and the end of Trump's short reign as president. It has been definitely up the right wingers street focussing on them and us.

The Dutch royal family took another blow when it came to Princess Amalia's 18th birthday party when it was attended by 110 guests this week when only a gathering of 4 is allowed under the Covid measures but who is counting?

Just as well the forum's chief epidemiologist put Macdoc in his place. Pity he missed the fact that the 7-day rolling average of new daily cases in Europe dropped from 392/million on the 8th of November 2020 to 174 by the 21st of February 2021, and that it rose from 53 on the 19th of June 2021 to 187 by the 22nd of July. The rise in the Netherlands from 35/million on the 30th of June 2021 to 587 less than three weeks later falsifies the alleged conjunction of the hostility of warmer and dryer weather conditions to the spread of of the virus.

Most of all though, the statistics in Australia totally destroy the theory. The 7-day rolling average of new daily cases rose from 1.44/million on the 7th of July (July being the coldest month of the year down here) to 107/million on the 17th of December.

Once again your at it quoting unsupported non defined data once again; fairy data. BTW There is always a time delay of many months which you of course ignore. The same goes for any measures put in place it takes weeks to see any result and some of course are zilch.
We have 500 plus in IC's with suspected Covid infection combined with other illnesses out of a population of 17,5 million. Not pure Covid cases as they are almost non-existent. But people that would have been ill anyway but just accelerated by Covid and given the stamp of a Covid infection and does not matter how sick they are from Covid they are always a Covid case. Some people only have a sniffle but it is a Covid case. I have a constant sniffle but that is a question of allergy. So if tested positive would I be a Covid case? Yet I dont have other symptoms.

I see - once more you know nothing about Queensland

Brisbane is 2.3 million....same as Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a hugely popular tourist destination and has a population of almost 850,000 residents in the city, 1.35 million in the urban area and 2.4 million in the metropolitan area
7 deaths....total ....since day one

Once more you know fuck all.
At least your gov understands.

AMSTERDAM: Shopping streets in the Netherlands were closed and people's Christmas plans were in disarray as the country began a lockdown on Sunday (Dec 19) aimed at limiting an expected COVID-19 surge caused by the rise of the Omicron variant.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced the sudden shutdown on Saturday evening, ordering the closure of all but the most essential stores, as well as restaurants, hairdressers, gyms, museums and other public places from Sunday until at least Jan 14.

The news came as a shock to many Dutch people as they headed into the Christmas and New Year period. Many people rushed out on Saturday to stock up on presents and food and to get a last-minute haircut.

Hospitality workers demanded compensation for lost income in the holiday season, while gym owners stressed the importance of exercise during a health crisis.

"Closing all bars and restaurants in such an important month is incredibly painful and dramatic. We need compensation and an exit strategy," the Dutch association for hospitality services said.

On Tuesday, the government had ordered that the 5pm to 5am closure of bars, restaurants and most stores, introduced in late November, would continue until Jan 14.

In addition, primary schools were ordered to close early for the winter holidays, due to high infection rates among children.

Rutte said then that Omicron could be the dominant coronavirus strain in the Netherlands by January.

On Friday the National Institute for Health (RIVM) reported 15,433 new COVID-19 cases, down around 25 per cent from a week earlier - but still above the peak of any previous wave.

The country's strained healthcare system is postponing most routine care and cancelling all but urgent operations in order to cope with COVID-19 patients.

The "World" will all get Omicron. Outside of Europe, US and Canada. Oh and maybe China, do not know what they copied yet.

NYT:
All vaccines still seem to provide a significant degree of protection against serious illness from Omicron, which is the most crucial goal. But only the Pfizer and Moderna shots, when reinforced with a booster, appear to have success at stopping infections, and these vaccines are unavailable in most of the world.

The other shots — including AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and vaccines made in China and Russia — do little to nothing to stop the spread of Omicron, early research shows. The gap could have a profound impact on the course of the pandemic.
