Re: Vaccination: mandated and/or incentivised
100% vaccination is a mistake. The problem continues to be the composition of the unvaccinated. What new world will they create after the rest of us become zombies?
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

In what way is it a mistake?

Re: Vaccination: mandated and/or incentivised
If it were possible to vaccinate everyone on some specific date, would the consensus be to do so, or to vaccinate over the course of several weeks, months etc?

Should people be vaccinated just so they can come back and sue, disregarding the benefit?
Australia:
Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration has received almost 79,000 reports of adverse side effect from 36.8 million doses of vaccine, according to its website. The most frequent reported side effects include a sore arm, headache, fever and chills.

Re: Vaccination: mandated and/or incentivised
That is a strange response to Brian. No country would have the facilities to vaccinate "everyone on some specific date" - simply way too hard logistically. Additionally, you will always have the vaccine hesitant who will take a wait and see approach before eventually taking the plunge. So vaccination for this pandemic becomes drawn out, even forgetting about potential booster shots, and decisions to include children when it becomes apparent that it is safe to do so.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 9:32 pmIf it were possible to vaccinate everyone on some specific date, would the consensus be to do so, or to vaccinate over the course of several weeks, months etc?
What we are starting to see here is the rate of vaccinations starting to slow down, as first doses approach 95 % (One assumes that most people who have their first dose will also have their second a few weeks later). A law of diminishing returns sets in, as we close in on the hard core of vaccine refuseniks (that proportion will vary country by country - certainly higher in the US than here...). Once that stage is reached, then we might as well open up fully, with the exception of some remaining restrictions on the wilfully unvaccinated, both to keep the pressure up, and keep them away from normal people as much as possible.
If that doesn't work there's always the concentration camp option...

Re: Vaccination: mandated and/or incentivised
Many of my friends had some unpleasant side effects (I only got a sore arm for a couple of days). Those who sue are just taking the chance for a bit of a cash grab - I hope it fails. Anyone with severe side effects needing medical treatment should obvious have that treatment for free, and possibly even replacement for lost wages, but no more than that.Tero wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 9:40 pmShould people be vaccinated just so they can come back and sue, disregarding the benefit?

Re: Vaccination: mandated and/or incentivised
It's a hypothetical Jim. It's possible to imagine having an opinion were the option available, which is the point. I think that opinion speaks to the nature of the kind of mistake we are discussing. Why would anyone hesitate to vaccinate everyone at once given the option?
Is there a valid reason for that hesitation?

What "mistake" are you talking about, and who's hesitating to vaccinate everyone at once?

Re: Vaccination: mandated and/or incentivised
Maybe no one, but things rarely work out like that.
The potential "mistake" is an old one of accidents. I think there would be two camps: one perfectly happy to vaccinate everyone, and another worried that however small the risk, its not being zero might mean being okay with less than 100% vaccination among those otherwise deemed okay to take it.

Austria to be the first country to make Covid vaccines mandatory.

Re: Vaccination: mandated and/or incentivised
It will be difficult to enforce though. In a tv interview on the news from Salzburg which has only a vaccination rate of 20% most gave the government the middle finger and were very sceptical.
