DeSsntis: you should just get corona and then get the Trump serum.
DeSantis promotes Covid drug that top donor invests in

DeSantis has been flying around the state promoting Regeneron, a monoclonal antibody treatment that was used on then-President Donald Trump after he tested positive for Covid.

“Early treatment with these monoclonal antibodies – Regeneron and others – have proven to radically reduce the chances that somebody ends up being hospitalized,” DeSantis said Monday at a treatment site in Orlando. “Reducing hospital admissions has got to be a top priority.”

We had a spike locally. I thought it was the big concert. But the US had the same, 259 000 one day, 144 000 the next.

Victoria's cases have jumped from 24 yesterday, to 57 today. A big, illegal engagement party, and recent maskless protest marches were probably super-spreader events...

Lockdown was already extended (supposedly finishing 2 weeks from today), but we'll be lucky if it ends then.

Haven't seen Tilly other than photos for many weeks... :(

Booster vaccine will not get rid of the pandemic. The vaccinated people aren't the ones partying, for the most part.

The health care workers, however, should get it about 6 months after their 2nd shot.

Somehow the language is 8 months from you first shot that you would get the third.

Yep. Free, state pays for it, and you don't need a prescription.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'm sure Regeneron has its uses for treating the unvaccinated when they become infected, but from an overall community point of view, increasing the proportion of the fully vaccinated is a key measure in reducing the rate of transmission, as well as making the disease itself less deadly. If a fully vaccinated person catches the virus (which of course can still happen, although with a reduced probability) they would have no need of Regeneron...

It's tradition, I suppose.

'"Disgusting": Outrage as J&J Exports Tens of Millions of Vaccine Doses From Africa to EU'
The U.S.-based pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson has recently exported tens of millions of coronavirus vaccine doses from South Africa to rich European Union countries under an "unusual" contract clause, a revelation that came as the African continent struggles to inoculate even a small percentage of its population against the surging Delta variant.

In an op-ed for The Guardian on Monday, former U.K. Prime Minster Gordon Brown wrote that "millions of Covid vaccines manufactured in Africa that should have saved the lives of Africans have been shipped to Europe in recent weeks."

Citing unnamed African leaders, Brown added that "this month and next, about 10 million single-shot Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccines filled and finished at the Aspen factory in South Africa will be exported to Europe, at the very time that Africa is grappling with its deadliest wave of Covid-19 infections yet."

"Compared with the swift development of the pathbreaking Covid vaccines, getting shots into all the world's arms should be straightforward," Brown continued. "But vaccine nationalism—and Europe's neocolonial approach to global health—is dividing the world into rich and protected people, who live, and those who are poor, unprotected and at risk of dying."

The People's Vaccine Alliance, a international coalition of advocacy groups campaigning for equitable vaccine distribution, reacted with outrage to Brown's column, calling the export of much-needed vaccines out of Africa "disgusting."

Australia's population of 26 million is comparable to Florida's 22 million, but when you consider the figures around COVID-19, the numbers are starkly different.

Currently, Australia's daily COVID-19 cases are being measured in the hundreds, but last week Florida recorded more than 150,000 cases.

The total number of deaths in Australia is still less than 1,000. Florida has now passed 41,000, by some reports.

Australia could still do better, though. Why do you think the recent change has happened? Were there any policy changes? I heard that quarantine rules had been relaxed. Can that be the cause?

No, it's just Delta and the NSW government was slow to clamp down. By the time they did a city-wide lockdown, it was flourishing in the community.

Of course Australia could do better. For starters, the federal government could pull its finger out of its arse and make an effort to obtain a sufficient amount of vaccines to achieve herd immunity in a more timely manner.

Quarantine and lockdown policies are determined by state and territory governments, and they vary. With the exception of New South Wales strict regulations are announced and effectively implemented at the first hint of a new wave of infections appearing on the horizon. Following the monumental fuckup in July last year the Victorian state government is particularly mindful of the fact that regulations must not only be announced but also implemented effectively.
