It won't just happen but you contended it was a pipe dream ..you are incorrect....it is a work in progress with the first stages operating since 2015.

I didn't say it was a pipe dream, I said that the stumbling block is economic and political instability and that we need a different world to make that particular solar dream come true.

There's a temptation to only focus on the tech here when in fact we need to think about the economic, political and social conditions we have to create in order to allow the tech to do it's stuff. As I've already said, twice, let's take the tech and the infrastructure issues as read and discuss what we need to do to achieve a revolution in the world's energy economy - and we need to get a wiggle on because the clock ticked down on that one a while a go.

So much for slower warming.....1.2 goal trashed.
Next month, after a yearlong delay because of the pandemic, the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will begin to release its first major assessment of human-caused global warming since 2013. The report, the first part of which will appear on 9 August, will drop on a world that has starkly changed in 8 years, warming by more than 0.3°C to nearly 1.3°C above preindustrial levels.

Will the Ozzies stop digging up coal? Will the Americans stop driving their gas guzzlers?
Another disaster report. Will it make any difference? Doubt it.
