He almost certainly is not, but I most certainly am. :x

Whatever Jim. The point I am making is with all the pandemics and climate problems will there be any sports then. I dont think so or what is left will be so compromised it wont be worth anything.

After Tokyo, we should bring the Olympic charade to an end
David Goldblatt wrote:The travelling circus shows the ugly side of sport – displacing citizens, bullying athletes and endorsing cruel regimes

he empty seats in the stadiums of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are a blessing in disguise, for the sporting spectacle, no matter how good, will not be able to dispel the fact that this super-spreader event is being held in the midst of an unprecedented public health crisis and against the wishes of the vast majority of the Japanese public. In so doing, the International Olympic Committee – which earnestly believes itself to be the leader of a global social movement – has been revealed as no more than the travelling circus of the global sports industry, ready to make sure the broadcasters get what they need come what may.

Not that these Games and the IOC’s standing weren’t deeply flawed prior to the pandemic. As at every Olympics, costs have spiralled and Japan will have to stump up more than $30bn (£22bn), of which the IOC will not be paying a cent. Along the way there has been the usual combination of expensive white-elephant stadiums, allegations of corruption in the bid process and in allocating contracts, and the forced eviction of citizens from their homes.
I dont think it will have the legs to reach Brisbane.

I so wish so, but I know I'll still have to suffer through the preparations and execution of the paris games.

Sounds good. Call we have the IOC committee being brought on a cart to have their heads chopped off as the opening ceremony?

Nothing agains that... though I'd rather it were an opening, and forever closing ceremony.

Idiots in Sydney (a similar but smaller protest occurred in Melbourne)

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-25/ ... /100321006
There are fears yesterday's anti-lockdown protest in Sydney could be a COVID-19 "superspreader event", as the city struggles to contain a growing outbreak of the Delta variant.

More than 50 people were charged and the CBD was shut down for several hours after thousands of demonstrators breached public health orders and marched together.

Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Wollongong and Shellharbour have been in lockdown for more than four weeks.

Despite that, the state's COVID-19 outbreak is getting worse, and a record 163 new cases were announced yesterday.

The protest enraged NSW Police Minister David Elliott, who condemned it as "a whole lot of halfwits" participating in an illegal "superspreader event".

Drop a dome on them.
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

There's a photo doing the rounds of a protester punching a police horse in the face. Straya!

Re the possibility of another anti-lockdown in Sydney:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-07-26/ ... /100323308

On the previous protest:
"What we saw today was 3,500 very selfish boofheads — people that thought the law didn’t apply to them," NSW Police Minister David Elliott said on Saturday."
On the difficulties of clamping down on protest organisers:
Commissioner Fuller said: "There are no organisers that we can take to the Supreme Court to stop the protests happening, which means they're a bunch of anarchists," he said.
;)

Since they are mainly right-wing conspiracy theory nut jobs, "anarchist" is a rather strange label. However, political fault lines are getting weirder and weirder - I can't keep up...
