Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I'm hopeful we'll improve our vaccination rates before school starts. That only gives us a few weeks. Being in a large city may be helpful here, even the Republicans I know have been vaccinated already.
The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

Have you been in a situation yet where it involved you sending a child for testing? Or iscthere some standard procedure to send a kid to the school nurse?Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 3:39 pmI'm hopeful we'll improve our vaccination rates before school starts. When I was a teaching assistant in college labs I once had to walk a kid to student health after he stabbed a glass rod-which broke-through his palm.

Eww, walk yourself to the nurse!

No, this will be my first year as a teacher of record. The policy is to send any sick kids to the nurse. But right now everyone is worried whether they can still talk about slavery...

I gather that there are many new cases in the UK, often those who have been vaccinated, but generally the symptoms are mild in those cases...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Pretty sure channel Seven were hoping for a bit of controversy, but this?
Biting the hand that feeds you, eh Katie?British far-right figure Katie Hopkins has been dumped as a cast member of Seven’s Big Brother VIP and will leave the country after breaching her contract, Guardian Australia can reveal.
Hopkins, 46, broadcast a live video from what she claimed was a Sydney hotel room on Saturday morning, describing Covid-19 lockdowns as “the greatest hoax in human history” while joking about elaborate plans to breach quarantine rules.
On Saturday home affairs minister, Karen Andrews, ordered an urgent review of whether Hopkins has breached her visa conditions by publicly flouting quarantine rules.
But the review has been superseded by a decision to terminate her contract, Guardian Australia understands...

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Nah. Rutte has been listening to the numbers published by the Rijksinstituut voor Volksgezondheid en Milieu, the Dutch research institute that is an independent agency of the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, and realised that the decision to abolish most crowd control measures on the 26th of June was a mistake. Friday week ago he announced via a press release that the abolition is rescinded, effective the coming Monday.Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 17, 2021 1:16 pmThe dictators are having their say and Rutte is listening to them.
No choice but to take summertime measures in face of rapid increase in infections
News item | 09-07-2021 | 19:15
The coronavirus infection rate in the Netherlands has increased much faster than expected since society reopened almost completely on 26 June. Most infections have occurred in nightlife settings and parties with high numbers of people. The increased infection rate does not currently pose a threat to vulnerable groups or the capacity of the healthcare system. However, such a high number of infectious people can be a risk for people who have not, or not yet, been fully vaccinated. The Delta variant is causing more cases of illness among people who are not fully vaccinated, and there have even been cases of this variant infecting people who are fully vaccinated or who have already had a coronavirus infection. The possibility of new virus mutations arising also raises uncertainty. And the lingering symptoms of ‘long COVID’ can also have a big impact on people’s lives.
All this gives the government cause for concern. We cannot discount the possibility that hospital admissions will again increase in the weeks ahead. We have therefore decided that extra measures are necessary this summer.
Measures as of 10 July 2021
The following measures will take effect from 06.00 on the morning of Saturday 10 July and remain in place until 13 August 2021:

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
No Kool-Aid for me. I'm content with just reporting what happened, like figures published by RIVM (which you rely on when infection rates drop, but describe as 'fairy data' when they rise) and Rutte's press release from a few days ago.

According to Scotty it is listening to them, which is probably just a rare slip.
