Back when Trump was president I read one Trump book: Cohen's. But I read several books on the voters and tried to understand the phenomenon. There was one I actually finished but it was a struggle.

What a relief to be told no police cleared Lafayette Park for Trump. His walk through it a few minutes later was a sheer coincidence. The police were equipped with shields, helmets and other riot gear and hurled tear gas grenades in preparation of the installation of a new security fence. That's just standard operational procedure, as the media and everybody who was in the park at the time should have known.

'Trump's Justice Department investigated House Democrats for leaks, seized phone data: report'

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats called for an investigation on Thursday after The New York Times reported that the Justice Department under President Donald Trump seized the communications data of members of the House Intelligence Committee.

“The news about the politicization of the Trump Administration Justice Department is harrowing,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said in a statement. “These actions appear to be yet another egregious assault on our democracy waged by the former president.”

The Times reported Thursday that the DOJ subpoenaed Apple for data from at least two committee members, as well as aides and family members, in 2017 and 2018. The Times report anonymously cited committee officials and two other people briefed on the inquiry.

Among those whose records were seized was California Rep. Adam Schiff, then the top Democrat on the committee.

Schiff, now the panel’s chair, said in a statement Thursday night: “Though we were informed by the Department in May that this investigation is closed, I believe more answers are needed, which is why I believe the Inspector General should investigate this and other cases that suggest the weaponization of law enforcement by a corrupt president.”

The Times reported that the subpoenas came as the DOJ was trying to hunt down the sources of leaks that had led to news stories about contacts between Trump associates and Russia.

Get the inspector general on the case. If the recent actions of the US Department of Justice are an indication, it'll be, 'oh, that's just how we do things now.' The fact that Barr reopened the investigation after it had already found nothing is a strong indication of rotten motives, but maybe they'll find a way to smooth it over.

'DOJ's watchdog opens investigation into the Trump-era seizure of Democrats' phone data'

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco asked the Justice Department inspector general on Friday to open an investigation into the Trump administration's seizure of House Democrats' phone data, The Associated Press reported. Inspector general Michael Horowitz released a statement shortly after saying he would probe the matter.

The data was collected in 2018 as part of the Trump DOJ's investigation into leaking to the media. The New York Times reported that the DOJ seized from Apple the phone metadata of two Democrats, Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell, on the House Intelligence Committee. The department also seized the data of family members and aides of the two lawmakers. One person whose data was collected was a minor, The Times said.

Following The Times' reporting, Monaco on Friday asked Horowitz to investigate the matter. Senate Democrats also threatened to subpoena Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions, who were both attorneys general during the Trump administration, to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Mueller were wiped before they were handed over to the Office of the Inspector General to be examined for proof of potential bias.

Mueller and his team were investigated by the Department of Justice for alleged biased in its pursuit of any proof that Trump or his administration colluded with Russia.

The investigation concluded that there was no bias but as part of it, Mueller's team was told to hand over cellphones. Many had been wiped of their data.

Among the reasons given was that people had forgotten their passcodes, there was irreversible screen damage or people had lost them.

Andrew Weissman, Mueller's deputy, 'accidentally wiped' his phone on two occasions after entering the wrong passcode too many times in March 2018, and lawyer James Quarles' phone 'wiped itself' without his intervention, the documents claim.

A phone belonging to FBI lawyer Lisa Page - who was caught exchanging anti-Trump texts with FBI agent Peter Strzok - had also been wiped by the time it was handed over.
