Artisanal Mining, Cobalt and your Electric Car

Post by rainbow » Mon May 31, 2021 9:37 am

I've seen children in the DRC picking up bits of cobalt ore to sell to traders.

They earn less than $2 per day.

...so you can have a lithium ion battery.

It's all about convenience, perhaps?

Oh look, someone noticed that Greta Inc. is selfish, greedy and unrealistic...

Electric is good, but it's a rich man's car. Torque and silence are terrific, but I can't afford them for my truck, boat or bike. Well, I have one for my boat, but only use it when sneaking up on the fishes...

I doubt I'm right, but knowing that diamonds are mostly useless, I've been thinking for awhile that Ekati and Diavik aren't so much there to work mines, but to continue exploration efforts to find some of the really valuable stuff. Pitchblende, was my thought, but I guess the rare earths could be too.

Keeping some fingers in government here, allows big mining companies to massage the laws where they have to, in order to enable their next big thing. It isn't enough to have a government willing to allow your company exploration rights, the best is when they deny those rights to your competition.

Mining seems a dirty business, at least to me.

You are probably right.

I'm curious to know how her Atlantic crossing went. I believe she was on a racing sailboat, hardly the most comfortable of rides!

48 foot racing sailboat, apparently a "carbon neutral" crossing, whatever the fuck that means.

It means people fall for the stupidest tricks, over and over.

If she hadn't turned irrelevant so quickly, I might go track down a copy of 'Greta Inc.'

Somebody else did all the sailing too. I still bet it was a worthwhile experience. She's very lucky.

So according to Dinesh D'Souza, if you happen to be a blond girl with braids, you are automatically Nazi propaganda. If she takes her braids out, will she cease to be Nazi propaganda?

I didn't see where he said that. Can you link to a quote? Or is it from your imagination? :tea:

Are you impersonating a lying mid-wit? Or are you actually imagining that he said that?

Nevermind, I think you have already answered.
