The Chinese have a world conquest plan in motion. I've no doubt they will win. If they are willing to unleash hell on Earth, and believe they've got away with it. Why not do it again? With a even bigger splash?

Melbourne has had another outbreak. Four new cases today. First cases in a couple of months. FFS Melbourne, get your shit together!

Republicans actually learn something in college! It was expected that Democrats and blacks would.

I'm not sure... despite the outwardly normal size of the head, they do seem to have a brain case the same size as zinjanthropus boisei.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I'm finishing the Michael Lewis book this week. A number of scientists are profiled. Hypotheses and experiments pop up here and there.
It struck me that in organic synthesis we never use those words. We are not trying to decipher nature. The chemist makes he molecule using known chemical steps. They work or they don't. I guess you could call it a hypothesis that you think the reaction will go the expected way. Only when you test your molecule with an enzyme or receptor does the hypothesis part come up. "We desigbed this with models, and it should bind to the enzyme better than the previous molecule we made."

Information conserved at the top of the hierarchy by republicans and more evenly/randomly distributed by democrats could explain the results.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Research. All of synthetic chemistry uses known reactions, but on new molecules. Those with funding from big universities or gov't can go invent new reactions. The hypothesis by Dr Suzuki was that two pieces could be put together in this fashion. But till they had a set of conditions that gave a good yield of product, it was unknown if it would work. There were other reactions that hinted it would work.Svartalf wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 3:04 pmIs it research, or just technology?Tero wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 12:24 pmI'm finishing the Michael Lewis book this week. When you invent a new reaction, you do not patent it or the reagents, because then nobody can use it for 18 years. You want hundreds, thousands to use it so you get your Nobel prize.

When you use something like that to make molecules that are to be tested as drugs then the hypothesis proof thing is more appropiate.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
The problem with experimental chemistry and modern pharmacology is that you might try to create molecules in the family of a known drug to obtain similar effects, but you have to wait for the widespread tests on humans, and maybe quite some time after the drug is released in its aimed application, to discover that it might have other interesting properties.
