"Alt-right" Still Parading Ignorance, Stupidity, Malice, Etc.
Re: "Alt-right" Still Parading Ignorance, Stupidity, Malice, Etc.
If I had been involved in antifa, I would have quit it in shame by now.
I haven't seen a single thing they have been credited with, that people should be proud of.
Like the nightly riots in Portland, their best is usually not good for anyone.
Of course, the fact that I don't like fascism doesn't make me one of 'them'. They don't know how to make anything, and most decent humans like making things.
They have only been credited with destruction and opposing free speech. Almost like fascism, if it was in the service of political goals...

The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?
The Silver State. 1894.

What antifa aktions are you proud of?
Their beating of people who disagree with their political bosses?
Their burning of businesses and federal buildings?
Bullying and beating reporters?
Or is it the dyed hair, shitty tattoos and free time?

The idea that you would quit anything from shame just struck me as mildly funny.

I'm not a member of antifa and I don't know anyone who's ever been to a protest with them. I've mentioned this kind of thing to you before. It's a problem many --probably even more-- Americans have too. It's a framing problem. The average US person is framed as being bound up in whatever has captured the world's attention through the media in a way that we really aren't.

So nothing they have done, in all the coverage they have gotten, has been an aktion you would be proud of?Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 3:19 pmThe idea that you would quit anything from shame just struck me as mildly funny.

Same here.
Not at all the same for BLM, by the way. Those ones have positive work they are aiming for. Things they pursue that I could be proud of, like reducing racism.
They might fail a lot (riots happen even if organizers don't try for them) but there is no problem seeing what good they aim to do.
So again, nothing antifa has done is 'good' to most people.
Beating reporters is sometimes good, but one would need to look at such a case quite carefully, to see how much of a beating the reporter deserved.

You're still thinking of me as though I should have something meaningful to say about antifa. I can only guess that it's because I'm an American, and as I said before, I'm expected to. But I think the media does a poor job defining what occupies the lives of most Americans.

Nope, just pointing out that even with the media coverage (some favourable, some opposite) there isn't anything you would be proud to take part in.Sean Hayden wrote: ↑Tue May 11, 2021 4:16 pmYou're still thinking of me as though I should have something meaningful to say about antifa. They aren't a decent org. Most of their efforts are unwelcome by their victims, and even disinterested people like you.

Why on earth would you have been involved with antifa in the first place? You're clearly far more fa than antifa.

It's an absurd counterfactual hypothetical that has no value, given who you are and what you believe.
It would be like Dwight Eisenhower saying, "You know, if I'd been involved with them Nazis over there, maybe I wouldn't be so proud of them by now. Durr."
Yeah, no shit. Of course you disapprove a group to whom you are diametrically opposed.

Round here we don't march together - or even at all. Like calling Andy Ngo that, which is funny to my ear, considering how his intersectionality and lived experience are at odds with their accusations.

Andy Ngo is just a shitty human being. If that chalks up to lived experience, so be it.
